Lead Geophysicist



Location: The Persian Gulf

Company: International Energy Company

Due to expansion in activities and recent asset acquisitions, an International Energy Company is seeking to resource a Senior Geophysicist who will be assigned to the Persian Gulf. This is regarded as a key appointment within our client's organisation.

Summary of Role:

Provides geophysical expertise and support for all aspects of the company's exploration and development activities. Reviews, interprets and maps seismic data relating to operated, non-operated and new venture projects. Provides an independent geophysical evaluation as part of an on-going technical review to enable a full commercial evaluation of all assets.

Key Accountabilities

  • Designs, plans, supervises and manages geophysical acquisition and processing programs.
  • Undertakes seismic structural interpretation, mapping and seismic attribute studies using workstation interpretation, and mapping and cartographic software to identify drillable, economic prospects.
  • Recommends exploration, appraisal and development well locations that satisfy corporate aims.
  • Prepares and presents technical papers on behalf of the company at industry technical conferences.
  • Liaises with other team members in providing a basis for creating and updating geological and reservoir simulation models.
  • Designs, plans and manages appropriate external geophysical work programs and studies.
  • Performs geophysical studies using workstation and PC-based software, and writes technical reports in conjunction with team members and support staff.
  • Prepares and presents prospect inventory, prospect ranking, and farmout material with Senior Geologist and Senior Reservoir Engineers.
  • Recommends borehole geophysical logging programs in conjunction with team members and contractors to identify key horizons and reservoirs.
  • Represents Company at Technical and Operating Committee Meetings, workshops, farmout presentations and industry technical conferences.
  • Liaises with Operators on geophysical studies, well planning, and budgets to optimize economic aims.
  • Work with team members pro-actively to seek New Venture opportunities to achieve corporate aims in production and reserves base.
  • Assists in providing training and transfer of technical skills to national employees.

Education, Experience and Competencies

  • B.Sc. degree in Geology or Geophysics
  • Substantial experience as Geophysicist in international oil and gas sector
  • Able to interpret seismic data, incorporating relevant well information, to produce both seismic time and depth maps
  • Computer literate both on UNIX based workstations and on PC based computers
  • Able to work within a team of, primarily, geologists and reservoir engineers etc
  • Able to clearly communicate what is seen on seismic data and its geological significance
  • Experience of working on new ventures.

The appointee will be invited to join the expatriate staff payroll on long term residential contract (married or single status).
