AWE Limited (AWE) is one of Australia's leading upstream oil and gas companies and is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). With market capitalisation of approximately $800m, AWE participates in oil and gas exploration, development and production opportunities in Australia and overseas. Due to an expansion in our exploration new ventures activity, we are seeking high calibre geoscientists to join our growing team.

The Position

This role covers all aspects of basin-wide technical evaluation, including project management and a hands-on technical contribution for assessment of prospective fairways, plays and their resource potential and risk.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• screening new business opportunities within corporate themes;
• the identification, technical evaluation and capture of new exploration assets; and
• contributing to the identification of new focus areas for the company.

This role is based in Sydney and reports to the Exploration New Ventures Manager. Some interstate and overseas travel will be required

The Person

The candidate will be a well-rounded Regional Geoscientist with hands on skills in geological and geophysical evaluation and a strong technical background in regional-scale basin evaluations. The successful candidate will have core skills in Stratigraphy, Basin Modelling, seismic interpretation with geochemistry and petrophysics considered advantageous.

Required Experience

• Degree in Geosciences with an advanced degree desirable;
• 10+ years' industry experience with an international upstream operating company and a focus on regional geological interpretation;
• Working knowledge and experience of petroleum geology in a variety of tectonic settings around the world.
• SE Asia exploration experience is desirable

Skills and Knowledge

• Wide exposure to varied geological terranes from around the world;
• Expert in stratigraphy;
• Working knowledge of petrophysics and log interpretation ;
• Familiarity with geoscience interpretation tools (e.g. Kingdom Suite, Petrel) and basin modelling software is desirable;
• Prospect generation skills including an understanding of probabilistic assessment and geological risking methodology.
