With market capitalisation of approximately $800m, AWE participates in oil and gas exploration, development and production opportunities in Australia and overseas. Due to an expansion in our exploration new ventures activity, we are seeking high calibre geoscientists to join our growing team.

The Position

This role covers all aspects of a new venture evaluation, including project management as well as hands-on technical contribution for assessment of prospective fairways, plays and their resource potential and risk, leading to the capture of identified quality exploration acreage.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• screening new business opportunities within corporate themes'
• the identification, technical evaluation and capture of new exploration assets; and
• contributing to the identification of new focus areas for the company.

This role is based in Sydney and reports to the Exploration New Ventures Manager. Some interstate and overseas travel will be required

The Person

The candidate will be a well-rounded Exploration Geoscientist with hands on skills in geological and geophysical evaluation, a strong technical background in new venture evaluations and a track record of exploration success. The successful candidate will have core skills in prospect generation and evaluation and will be required to lead teams in data rooms and asset evaluations.

Required Experience

• Degree in Geosciences with an advanced degree desirable;
• 10+ years' industry experience with an international upstream operating company and a focus on prospect generation through seismic interpretation;
• Working knowledge and experience of petroleum geology in a variety of tectonic settings around the world. SE Asia exploration experience is desirable;
• Experience in data room/technical evaluations, able to search for analogues among geological provinces and with the judgement to identify quality exploration opportunities.

Skills and Knowledge

• Proven track record as a prospect identifier, leading to capture of acreage and/or drilling of wells;
• Hands-on seismic interpreter, ideally with good working knowledge of SMT Kingdom;
• Working knowledge of petrophysics and log interpretation would be advantageous;
• Familiarity with industry-recognised applications such as ArcGIS, REP, Paradigm VoxelGeo and Petrosys.
