Carbonate Geologist

Badley Ashton and Associates Ltd, a leading reservoir geoscience consultancy with offices in the UK, the UAE, and a US subsidiary company based in Houston, is expanding its carbonate team and looking for a carbonate reservoir geologist.

This is an excellent opportunity for recently graduated Ph.D. qualified candidates, or M.Sc. graduates with industry experience in carbonate sedimentology and diagenesis, to join an experienced and highly motivated team in delivering high-quality consultancy and training services to an international client base.


  • to provide high-quality carbonate reservoir consultancy in a range of carbonate depositional systems to a variety of international clients, which will involve frequent international travel
  • key tasks include core sedimentological description, CT analyses, wireline log and borehole image assessment, correlation and mapping, petrographical description, accurate data collection and reservoir quality evaluation, integration with a variety of other datasets, and concise scientific reporting with focussed documents and informal or formal work meetings to meet client requirements

The self-motivated candidate will have an opportunity to advance technically and in business, developing skills to:

  • guide clients on both technical and commercial benefits of varied analytical techniques to solve specific technical problems, designing and tendering work programmes
  • assist in the technical marketing and development of new business areas in accordance with the Company's vision
  • provide technical quality assurance
  • provide training for junior geologists and develop external courses
  • after completing an induction period in our UK office, the successful candidate will be considered for secondment to our Abu Dhabi office

Experience and skills

  • a Ph.D. with specialism in carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy and/or diagenesis
  • or a M.Sc. with 2 to 5 years industry experience in exploration, production or development of carbonate reservoirs
  • a knowledge of light microscopy, SEM, XRD, XRF, cathodoluminescence and fluid inclusion (FI)
  • self-motivation with excellent time/project management skills and enthusiasm to meet client expectations and deadlines
  • excellent oral and written communication skills for a variety of audiences
  • a drive for self-progression and career development
  • excellent computer literacy including experience in industry standard software (e.g. TerraStation, Petrel)
