Job Description

CGG's products and services span the breadth of geosciences, from frontier exploration to mature field revitalization. We acquire, process, analyze and manage all forms of geological and geophysical data including seismic, gravity, magnetic and satellite. We help our clients find resources, characterize reservoirs, estimate reserves, place surface facilities, monitor wells, optimize production and increase ultimate recovery. Founded in 1961, CGG Robertson is renowned for delivering global datasets, knowledge and experience in upstream oil and gas consultancy. Their services range from Non-Exclusive studies to Multi-disciplinary services, are active in all processes relating to the search for, and exploitation of hydrocarbons.

Working within the Robertson Global Thematics team, and reporting to the Support and Delivery Manager, the Geoscience Software Developer will be responsible for application development for our geological products that are part of the Robertson New Ventures Suite.

The Robertson New Ventures Suite is an integrated family of exploration-focused geoscience tools and databases that provide a competitive edge in global new ventures screening and frontier exploration.

We are currently transitioning the Robertson New Ventures Suite to next-generation platforms and are embarking on an exciting journey to architect, build and deliver these solutions to our clients.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for improving and supporting existing software offerings and providing second and third line support in conjunction with the Robertson User Support team.

It is also expected that the candidate will be involved in developing and maintaining libraries, shared components and technologies, as well as participate in design discussions and support the wider development and deployment projects.


The ideal candidate will be educated to BSc or equivalent level in Computer Science or another related discipline with an emphasis on programming, with a minimum of 5 years' demonstrable hands on programming experience using VB.NET or C# and demonstrable experience of the full software development lifecycle (design & architecture through to support).

The candidate will also have the below experience:

  • Working in a Windows/.NET based environment on desktop application development utilising APIs and asynchronous programming
  • Working with enterprise databases (e.g. Oracle/MS, SQL Server)
  • Debugging and testing (unit testing is desirable)
  • Source control management software (e.g. GIT) and IDEs (e.g. Visual Studio)
  • Experience of using project management / issue tracking / documentation software (e.g. Jira/Confluence)

It is desirable that the candidate also has experience of GIS application development (particularly ESRI's ArcGIS Pro), experience of working with map or web services and/or cloud infrastructure and security integration with some Geoscience data experience.
