YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

Join the Projects and Approvals Department responsible for managing the regulatory applications and approvals process for Canadian Natural¡¦s major projects, including in situ and mineable oil sands developments. Take ownership for the preparation of applications, the acquisition of regulatory approvals and providing strategic regulatory advice for major projects. As a Regulatory Coordinator, you will also support to Project Teams in regulatory and environmental matters related to major projects.

  • Manage consultants for the collection of baseline environmental information and the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in support of applications
  • Coordinate information from multi-disciplinary teams to support the preparation of Integrated Applications and EIAs for filing with the AER and ESRD
  • Develop and execute project specific regulatory approval plans
  • Thoroughly maintain your understanding of regulations, policies and regulatory processes pertinent to oil sands development applications and approvals under the jurisdiction of Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulators including but are not limited to:
    • The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
    • Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD)
    • The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA)
  • Take part in the development of regulatory or environmental initiatives

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?

  • Meet corporate business development objectives with timely applications and approvals
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local, provincial, and federal environmental regulators through effective communication
  • Preparation of project information for presentation to stakeholders including Aboriginal groups, and regulatory agencies to facilitate communication on environmental and regulatory matters and support consultation efforts
  • Coordinating and scheduling multiple, concurrent activities to align with corporate priorities
  • Coordinating environmental programs and tracking of Approval conditions with Canadian Natural Environmental Operations personnel to ensure regulatory compliance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically 10+ years of mining or oilsands experience with a degree in science or engineering
  • Experience working independently on regulatory processes for major projects
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to coordinate multiple deliverables
  • Familiarity with and understanding of:
    • Alberta regulations and regulatory processes or equivalent experience from a similar regulatory regime in Canada
    • In situ and mineable oil sands projects, including the construction, operations and reclamation stages
