Description

Provides expertise, advice and direction and management for the Materials Management of the project. As such liaises among the Construction, Engineering, Project Controls and Procurement/ Warehousing functions of the project team and oversees the Materials Management functions of each discipline. Establishes Policy and monitors and approves the development and execution of plans involving automated and manual Materials Management Systems.

• Supervision Received - Reports to and receives management direction from the Project Manager.
• Supervision Exercised - Provides operational direction to the Project Controls Material Planner, direction to the Materials Management related activities of Engineering, Procurement and Construction via the respective discipline Managers and provides direction to the Field Materials Manager.
• Contacts - Maintains direct working relationship with Client, Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Project Controls and Procurement personnel to assure mutual understanding, development and attainment of objectives, plans and requirements for the Materials Management of the project.
• Objective - Control and tracking of material through the life of the project. This initiates with project planning, continues through identification, specification, bill of material, requisition and purchasing stages, production, shipment /delivery to site, material receipt, storage and finally issue to construction for installation.

Requirements:

• Minimum degree in Engineering/Procurement and/or other relevant fields.
• Good experience in a contracting industry environment
• Candidate should possess very strong organisation; negotiation and communications skills
• Pro-active, forward thinking individual
• Computer literate
• Commercially aware

Have knowledge of Materials Management systems and their set up and utilization on major projects.

Required skills/certificates

• Experience in Project and or Materials Management and skills in communicating requirements across multi disciplines.
• Knowledge of planning and scheduling, construction and constructability issues.
• Understanding of materials and materials substitution and a basic understanding of engineering processes and engineering design Knowledge of stock coding and equipment and materials identification methods and equipment and materials specifications.
• Knowledge and experience of procurement processes and activities.
• Knowledge of logistics and different transportation and shipping methods customs clearance processes, and the methods for tracking of equipment and materials from point of manufacture to locations for off-site fabrication, modularisation or on-site construction.
• Knowledge of site or fab shop receiving, warehousing and issuing processes for equipments and materials and methods for controlling their allocation and issue in accordance with construction work package requirements
• Fluency in English preferred.

Duration: 2 year contract that is renewable
