Reservoir Engineer

UK &/or International, Aberdeen

Our client is an indpdt E&P company with international ops focused in the North Sea and Offshore West Africa. In the UK, the company has grown to become one of the top ten operated companies in the North Sea, with significant interests in the Northern North Sea and the Central North Sea. They have a significant drilling programme to look forward to over the coming years, with around 15 platform wells planned and 7 subsea wells from two semi-submersibles that they have on long-term contract in the North Sea, as well as an almost continuous drilling programme in West Africa. They drill on all types of rigs, platforms, semis, tender barges, deepwater and potentially jack-ups too. Targets range from rank wildcat wells in deepwater offshore West Africa to innovative, extended reach, multiple-target horizontal development wells in the North Sea. With all the increased activity and future plans in both exploration and development (their 5-year plan is to double production), the company now require additional staff to join their already successful team.

Purpose:

This is a key role, working together with the either the UK or International Managers to enhance the value of existing assets and to grow the business respectively through acquisition of new fields. The role is not restricted to a single asset but has a remit across the business. The candidate will lead the value optimization of producing assets through opportunity generation, identifying and leading new reservoir management initiatives, considering new plays/concepts for further development. This will involve a range of strategies, from independently working on new technical initiatives, to mentoring other staff, to working together with various teams on key projects. He/she will take a lead role in identifying acquisition opportunities and evaluating recommended values for purchase and will work closely with Business Development to implement such acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prime role in identifying where new technical initiatives should be pursued to enhance the value of producing assets. These initiatives may include specific technical studies (to be carried out by the candidate, by other engineers, or together as appropriate), changes to reservoir management processes or practice, and opportunity generation, such as searching for new concepts in infill drilling opportunities, well interventions, or application of new technologies to producing fields.
  • Prime role in growing business through acquisition. Although every reservoir engineer is exposed to acquisitions, most have a primary responsibility for a producing field. The candidate will therefore have a much higher role in identifying acquisition opportunities that fit the business, evaluating the value of these, and working with Business Development to acquire these assets.
  • Key mentoring role in the creation, updating and optimisation of field development plans including subsurface development, volume forecasts, integration of costs, timing, and technical input from other disciplines and economics, and mentor and assist other staff with this.
  • Prepare/review new reservoir simulation models and update/history match existing models
  • Use reservoir engineering knowledge to lead the identification of opportunities.
  • Provide support for exploration activities through reserves and volume profile estimation, analog recovery reviews, mini- or notional FDP coordination, economics, and specific reservoir engineering data gathering and analysis.
  • Use experience to assist teams and managers to ensure quality and integrity of budget input, reserves input and reserves reporting.

Required skills

Graduate calibre. Proven work experience in relevant discipline, incl another operator.

  • understanding of petroleum geology and reservoir eng. and all subsurface and related surface issues.
  • knowledge of reservoir simulation modelling and when appropriate to use;
  • knowledge of a wide range of analytical reservoir eng. techniques incl. material balance, decline curve analysis, displacement calculations and well test analysis
  • Experience in planning and economic evaluation and Production forecasting.
  • problem solving and always looking for efficient operational answers.
  • Good presenter with strong comms skills across all levels of the organisation.
  • Mentoring of more junior staff and transferring of knowledge to the organization as a whole
