Data Specialist - Wells and Coding


Salary - Please state your expectations

Accountabilities and End Results:

Primary Functions:

  • Works with primary raw data files received from operations groups, contractors or other external sources.
  • Receive and index data related to wells: well headers, well logs, directional surveys, well reports, core samples and analysis, fluid samples and analysis.
  • Complete initial quality control on the data.
  • Work with the Data Analyst, Data Specialist and Data Manager to meet the data needs of the business.
  • Provide back-office support for well data and workflows through its lifecycle from receipt to disposal.
  • Provide a coding and indexing capability for business data being input into eSearch.
  • Clean up existing files and link scanned images to meta-data in eSearch.
  • Work closely with the Geological Operations group to ensure that data from ongoing operations are indexed and archived.
  • Promote data responsibility and awareness within the UK assets and functions through issuance of standards and best practices for managing digital and physical data.
  • Occasional extended hours of work to provide support to the business during critical phases of an activity or project.

Critical Skills:

  • 5 years experience with a North Sea operator dealing with well data and related products
  • Experience of UK license obligations and loading of well data to CDA will be an advantage.
  • BSc. in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of Upstream workflows and data types.
  • Ability to navigate and manage data within Unix/Linux file systems.
  • Problem solving & troubleshooting abilities.
  • Team Player with excellent communication skills, self motivation and initiative.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of well or drilling operations will be an advantage.

Position Based: Aberdeen

Ideally applicants will be interest in a staff position with GTS-Geotech, however applications will be considered by Contractors seeking a day-rate. Applications will only be considered from candidates who have the right to live and work in the UK immediately. Sponsorship will not be an option.
