Seismic Data Analyst

Purpose: This role provides back-office specialised subsurface-related data services specifically rated to seismic data loading.
Accountabilities and End Results: This position is primarily accountable for the loading, quality control, cataloguing, retrieval and maintenance of specific data types in support of the entire BU so that they have accurate data in a timely, effective and reliable manner.
Primary Functions:
- Accountable for loading, quality control, cataloguing, data base creation, retrieval and maintenance of physical and/or electronic data
- Works with primary raw data
- Receive data and catalogue it specifically related to project data loading, disk management and seismic data analysis
- Load data into master and project data bases using proper data management procedures
- Complete initial quality control on the data
- Manage and maintain the data stores, data bases and catalogues
- Work with the Data Analyst and Data Manager to meet the data needs of the business
- Prepare and distribute data to external parties
- Provide back-office support for seismic data and workflows from receipt to disposal.
- Load and cascade geophysical data through interpretation project data repositories including OpenWorks/SeisWorks, GeoProbe, Petrel and Petrosys.
- UNIX/Linux disk capacity planning for geotechnical data which includes ensuring there is enough available disk space for geoscientists to use.
- Promote data responsibility and awareness through issuance of standards and best practices for managing seismic data.
- Network closely with the Geoscientists, Geodata Manager, Geodata Analysts/Specialists and application support to ensure the data management needs of the geoscience community are satisfied and managed pro-actively.
- Tracking & management of data supplied to and from partners and vendors, ensuring data is transmitted/received in appropriate formats.
- Design and management of seismic data archiving process in vendor neutral format.
- Ensure UK Government regulatory compliance for geophysical data.
Critical Skills:
- BSc. in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years related experience
- Proven experience in loading and management of 2D and 3D seismic data within the Landmark environment.
- Understanding of seismic processing, depth conversion and quality checking techniques.
- Strong experience with Landmark R5000 application and data environment with knowledge of upgrade tools & utilities
- Basic data loading & management of seismic data within the Petrel environment.
- Knowledge of Upstream workflows and data types.
- Ability to navigate and manage data within Unix/Linux file systems.
- Problem solving & troubleshooting abilities.
- Team Player with excellent communication skills, self motivation and initiative.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with UK license obligations and loading of geophysical data to CDA will be an advantage.
- Experience with Disk Management and shell scripting
