Geoscience Technical Assistant


Based near Oxford, Neftex is a leading UK geoscience consultancy company providing sequence stratigraphic models and geoscience advice to the upstream petroleum industry. Neftex has a strong research ethos and uses this to develop exploration concepts for our clients. We are developing a global sequence stratigraphic model and currently have projects underway worldwide.

The successful applicant will initially join our Content Management teams to assist with the search and collation of data and its preparation for interpretation. Having successfully perfected these roles and responsibilities there will be opportunities for GTA's to rotate through some of our large-scale regional and global projects according to business needs. The candidate must be well organised, capable of multi-tasking and a strong team player, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The ideal candidates will have:
  • A good honours degree (2:1+) in geology (BSc, MSci or MGeol)
  • A proven interest in petroleum geology, tectonics, sedimentary and stratigraphic geology
  • A professional attitude (self-starter; ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team as required; ability to meet deadlines; ability to present ideas to others)
In addition, the following skills will be beneficial:
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g. MS Access) and ArcGIS software.
  • Knowledge of a foreign language would be advantageous.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Loading geological data to our unique bibliographic database
  • Loading, maintaining and updating lithological and stratigraphic data in our well and outcrop databases
  • Maintaining and updating GIS products
  • Supervision of the digitisation of well data
  • Georeferencing of geological data
Preferred start date: January 2014 (we are willing to offer a degree of flexibility where appropriate)

Further rounds of recruitment will be taking place at regular intervals during the next 12 months.
