Based near Oxford, Neftex is a leading UK geoscience consultancy company providing sequence stratigraphic models and geoscience advice to the upstream petroleum industry. Neftex has a strong research ethos and uses this to develop exploration concepts for our clients. We are developing a global sequence stratigraphic model and currently have projects underway worldwide.

The successful applicant will work on one of our large-scale regional or global projects. The candidate must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a proven interest in petroleum geology, tectonics and stratigraphic geology. Specialist skills are not required, but those who have developed expertise in sedimentology, biostratigraphy, large-scale geodynamics and organic geochemistry are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidates will have:

• A good honours degree (2:1+) and a postgraduate degree in Geology or Geochemistry (at least MSc level. This does not include MSci or MGeol degrees)
• A professional attitude and the ability to work to deadlines under minimal supervision
• A good command of written and spoken English
• Excellent presentation skills

In addition, the following skills will be beneficial:

• Knowledge of databases (e.g. MS Access) and Arc GIS software
• Knowledge of a foreign language would be advantageous
• One to five years’ experience in the petroleum industry

Responsibilities may include:

• Population of Neftex Databases
• Interpretation of well and outcrop data
• Generation and modification of tectonic and chronostratigraphic summary charts
• Generation and modification of palaeogeographic and isopach maps (in ArcGIS as required)
• Generation of petroleum geology play concepts
• Technical presentations to clients

Preferred start date: January 2014 (we are willing to offer a degree of flexibility where appropriate))
