Research Associate position in Geophysics

Department: Petroleum Geosciences

Description: The Petroleum Geosciences Department at The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, is seeking to hire a highly-qualified Post-doctoral researcher to work in a research project on 'Multi-Offset Vertical Seismic Profiling and Cross-well Tomography Inversion'. The project is funded by the ADNOC R&D Oil Subcommittee and involves collaboration between The Petroleum Institute and operating companies (ADCO, ZADCO and ADMA).

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in geophysics or a related pertinent science discipline.
• Proven knowledge of seismology.
• Expertise in seismic reflection and VSP processing.
• Experience of numerical modeling and inversion.
• Application of tomography inversion
• Good knowledge of Amplitude Variation with Offset is an asset.
• Excellent programming skills (C/C++ and Matlab).

In addition, candidates are expected to have:

• A good research publication track record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• An ability to work independently as well as collaboratively together with graduate students and industrial partners.

Salary/Benefits: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, child(ren) education, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
