Well Engineering Systems Consultant



Location: Aberdeen/Peel Park
Grade: 19
Salary Range: Up to £50,000 dependant on experience plus excellent flexible benefits.


Job Description:

SAIC's global Drilling, Completions and Wells Practice is currently looking for a Well Engineering specialist with significant IT appreciation to join our team in a business development capacity.

The Practice team are located in the UK, US and India, and provide support, project and consultancy services to a global customer base. Solutions are predominantly based on the integration of domain applications, data, systems and real time technologies. SAIC is a vendor-neutral, agnostic aggregator of best in class technology and processes on behalf of our clients.

This represents an exciting, challenging opportunity within the Practice to break new ground in terms of both the solutions and client base. This role will operate as a consultant / specialist leading the practice team's solution design and application for Drilling and Well Engineering clients - both existing and potential.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will, in addition to a background in the Drilling and Well Engineering domain, possess a keen sense of how to develop and exploit business opportunities in the Drilling and Well Engineering domain and take accountability for managing a pro-active engagement and capture plan, and the subsequent delivery of consultancy services.

The Well Engineering Specialist role will act as a key interface between the business challenges faced in the Drilling domain, and the IT solutions which may enable better performance or eliminate risk or waste from the execution of drilling programmes.

Business Development

  • Participation in bids and proposals where required
  • Exercising a list of industry contacts in the interests of business development and growth
  • Preparation and presentation of domain focused White Papers
  • Pro-active opportunity recognition and quantification
  • Active within industry forums and communities
  • Promotion of SAIC capabilities and solutions in the market place

Project and Consultancy Delivery

  • Requirements gathering and the ability to produce a documented scope of works
  • Communicating with the client and managing expectations
  • Provision of detailed cost and time estimates for work required and any continued supports to meet business challenges
  • Adoption of new software and hardware services on behalf of the client
  • Adoption of new methodologies, process and architecture solutions on behalf of the client
  • Building, testing and release of IT equipment where necessary

Staff Development

  • Elevate the current domain contextual appreciation within the Practice Team
  • Peer reviewing of colleagues designs and solutions
  • Mentoring and developing more junior team members in technology, tools and practices
  • Working from, and adding to, documented processes, solutions and designs

Candidates Must Posses:

Significant Drilling and Well Engineering domain experience, ideally gained working with Real Time data and it's challenges and value

Full appreciation of Drilling Engineering Fundamentals, such as : Directional Drilling, Well Planning, Mud System Hydraulics, BHA Selection, Casing String Design, Cementing Programme Design

Experience working with Well Engineering and Drilling applications - for example :

  • Landmark : EDM, OpenWells, OpenWire, r5000
  • Peloton : WllView, RigView, SiteView
  • Schlumberger : Osprey
  • Kongsberg : Sitecom, Discovery Wells

Demonstrable understanding of the challenges and trends within the Drilling domain, and how they may be impeded or enabled by timely IT intervention. Extended Reach Drilling, Real Time Drilling Information, Onshore collaboration environments, marginal, in-fill drilling, HP/HT, NPT reduction, demographic pressures etc.

Must demonstrate a somewhat entrepreneurial character with regard to business development. The candidate cannot be a passive observer of business, but must initiate actions and deliver against a plan for growth.

Flexibility over working location - this role will involve travel between SAIC and Customer locations globally. The core team is located in Aberdeen, but it is anticipated that the Americas and Middle East will feature as key growth areas.

The ability to effectively self-manage - not just in periods of high demand and conflicting priorities - but also in quiet spells too. The candidate will often find themselves as almost the only SAIC personnel at the client site, and will need to be able to weather the sort of challenges that exposure and expectation brings. Experience of delivering solutions while on-site, co-located with the business is essential.

Knowledge of Windows Systems administration skills, and familiarity with the following :

  • Citrix
  • VMWare
Creative thinker, with the ability to contribute new ideas and methods to the Practice
Good leader and influencer, possessed of motivational techniques - will be responsible for the development and growth of existing Practice talent
Must be able to, and enjoy, communicating with customers, having the confidence to lead client engagement without supervision
An appreciation of Project Management principles and process

Education:

A degree in a relevant Engineering, Earth Science or IT subject
