Reservoir Engineer (Operations)

South Africa

The opportunity to live and work as an expatriate in South Africa

Sasol Petroleum International (SPI) is the upstream arm of Sasol Ltd, the South African based world leader in the manufacture of synthetic fuels and chemicals. SPI has operated and non-operated E&P interests in Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and is presently seeking other new ventures. In Mozambique SPI operates the producing Temane gas field as well as the nearby Pande gas field in which development drilling is taking place. Appraisal of the complex Inhassoro field also formed part of a 30-well 2007 drilling campaign.

Offshore Mozambique SPI operates a large exploration licence on which a 2000 km2 3D seismic survey has been shot with exploration drilling planned for this year. As part of its ambitious global growth plans SPI is targeting a three-fold increase in gas production from Mozambique during the next eight years.

We are looking for an expert in reservoir engineering operations to provide technical support for our assets in Mozambique. This is a very visible and influential post carrying lead responsibility for operational reservoir matters.

Ideally, candidates will possess an MSc in Petroleum or Reservoir Engineering combined with expertise in Petroleum Experts and Saphir packages. Previous regional experience is not a pre-requisite but you will have had some onshore field operational exposure and be comfortable with diagnosing well operational problems, preparing well management guidelines and interpreting gas condensate & oil well test data. Multi-field development and optimisation experience is also key and some experience of working in an operating company is preferred.

The successful candidate will have the potential for significant career development, which in time could include offshore work.

Based in Rosebank, Johannesburg, foreign travel to Mozambique and London will be required. Language skills, especially Portuguese, are advantageous. This role will benefit from a full ex-patriate salary package as well as relocation assistance where appropriate.
