Sasol Petroleum International (SPI) is the E&P division of Sasol, one of the top 50 global energy companies. SPI has operations in Mozambique and Papua New Guinea and interests in South Africa, West Africa, and Australia. SPI’s strategic focus is exploration and monetisation of stranded gas. Its current equity production is 40,000 boepd and it is in the middle of an expansion project to increase production to 55,000 boepd by 2011. The company strategy is to achieve 150,000 boepd by 2025. To support this expansion, SPI is looking to recruit a Manager, Value Assurance to its Technical Services function. The key requirements of this role are: to develop, maintain and ensure adoption of SPI’s assurance process for all new business, exploration, appraisal, development and operating phases of the Company assets; to ensure assurance activities and readiness reviews are planned and take place as required; too chair and report on critical assurance reviews and to recruit, coach, develop and retain SPI value assurance staff. Candidates for this role are most likely to have a background in Petroleum Engineering, combined with experience in: the analysis of geotechnical data; the application of uncertainty methods and risk management in opportunity evaluation; resources estimation methodology; and asset evaluation, field appraisal and field development planning. Having worked in a range of operating environments (offshore, onshore, remote, green-field, brown-field, operated, non-operated) you must be able to demonstrate your understanding of a stage-gate process, the functional processes and appropriate standards for all project phases from opportunity identification to post-implementation review. Knowledge of SPE-PRMS is required. Degree educated in a geological, mathematical or physics-oriented subject, you may also have an MSc or PhD in Petroleum Engineering. Fluency in written and spoken English and excellent communication skills are essential as is the desire and ability to inspire, coach and develop technical staff in a geographically dispersed virtual team. Acting as SPI’s Reserves Coordinator you will be responsible for maintaining an overview of all capital activities, whilst also managing a functional budget. Crucially, you must ensure that all uncertainties, risks and opportunities are identified and assessed and that outcomes and lessons learned are effectively disseminated. Reporting to the General Manager, Technical Services, this position is based in Rosebank, Johannesburg and requires regular inter-continental travel.
