CO2 STORAGE PROJECT MANAGER

THE CHANCE TO DELIVER THE WORLD’S LARGEST CO2 STORAGE PROJECT

SOUTH AFRICA, MOVING TO CHINA

Sasol is a South African based global leader in the manufacture of synthetic fuels and chemicals through state-of-the-art proprietary technology. We have 50 years experience in world-scale Coal-to-Liquids (CTL) projects and are presently at the feasibility stage in the development of a $multi-billion CTL Plant in China. Further new CTL ventures are under investigation, such as in the USA, India and China.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a major by-product of CTL plants and the implication for Sasol is that CTL without a focused reduction in CO2 emissions is unlikely to be environmentally, financially or socially acceptable. Our challenge is to dispose of 500 to 1000 MMSCFD of CO2 which is typically stored by compressing the gas to a liquid form and injecting it into deep geological formations, such as saline aquifers, un-mineable coal seams or into depleted oil and gas fields. In some of these instances, the revenue generated by enhanced oil recovery (EOR) or coal bed methane (ECBM) production may partly offset the cost of CO2 storage. This project is likely to cost as much again as the CTL Plant and the project duration is anticipated to be up to 10 years.

We seek to recruit a Project Manager who can drive our CO2 Storage Project in China. You will be responsible for all stages of the project development, from conceptual studies through to front-end and detailed engineering. Specifically, you will have overall accountability for project definition, planning, costs, contracts and delivery.

Suitable candidates are likely to have upstream oil and gas backgrounds as there is a strong requirement to appreciate subsurface matters and integrate the expertise within Sasol with various G&G, Drilling and Engineering consultancies. You will be an Engineering graduate with qualifications in either Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering. You must have substantial experience in the delivery of engineering and capital projects within the upstream oil and gas industry. It is essential that you are prepared to live and work in South Africa at the outset, before following the project for construction in China.
