Exploration & Development Geophysicists

Aberdeen

Opportunities with one of North America’s largest oil & gas companies as we strengthen our position in the North Sea

Suncor Energy merged with Petro-Canada in 2009 to form Canada’s largest energy business with a resource base of over 20 billion boe and considerable financial strength. Since the merger, we have been optimising this combined global portfolio, aligning the assets with our business strategy. We are now looking to the future.

In the UK and Norway we have assets in production and development, as well as exploration acreage. We firmly believe there is more value to be found across the North Sea basin and are committed to growing the business from our offices in Aberdeen and Stavanger.

Our UK focus is on the Central North Sea, where we have 30% equity in the producing Buzzard field and the nearby Golden Eagle/Hobby development, (all non-operated). These assets are amongst the largest North Sea finds in the past 15 years. After acquiring a new license in the UK 26th Licensing Round, we now have five Operated exploration licenses and sanction to drill two operated wells. In addition we are active in new ventures, seeking exploration acreage through licensing rounds and farm-in opportunities.

These roles are within a small subsurface team reporting to our UK Exploration Manager, who has responsibility for operated and non-operated exploration activity. Both roles will include work on Suncor’s significant interest in the Buzzard Field development and the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD). We require two geophysicists, one primarily in exploration and the other primarily in development, to respectively take responsibility for these activities.

The Exploration Geophysicist will be responsible for all the geophysical elements of our UK exploration programme. This currently includes preparing for and drilling two exploration wells in 2012, the evaluation of recently acquired exploration acreage with a drill-or-drop decision, and identifying and evaluating new venture opportunities including new licence rounds in association with our new-venture partners.

The Development Geophysicist will be expected to work pro-actively with our partners to ensure that our positions in the non-operated Buzzard Field and GEAD area are fully reflected in our influence over the geophysical aspects of subsurface matters.

Candidates should be earth science graduates with training and experience in exploration and/or development geophysics with an operating oil company. North Sea experience is essential.

We offer a highly attractive compensation package and flexible working practices. For a confidential discussion about these roles please call Liz Gardner at our retained consultants, Simpson Crowden LLP, on +44 (0)207 016 9768 or +44 (0)7801 711372. To apply, please email your CV to suncor@simpsoncrowden.com quoting ref: R222.

CVs sent to Suncor from third parties will be forwarded to Simpson Crowden.
