Production Systems Solution Architect

Solution Architect for Integrated Solutions (PDMS / IPMS / IAM )

The role of the Production Systems (PS) solution architect is to work with the PS Principal Solution Architect to design the architecture of integrated production solutions being rolled out to various assets with a strategic client. The solutions are based on a technology stack built of production database, real-time data historian, integrated visualization & reporting applications and integrated asset modeling applications. These integrated solutions usually interface with other existing reservoir and petroleum engineering applications. The production solutions design and architecture is built based on existing control systems (DCS, SCADA) in the field, IT and telecommunications infrastructure onshore and the field. Usually, the IT and telecommunications infrastructure has to be extended in order to design a robust solution. The architect will need a thorough knowledge of relevant IT and oilfield control system technologies and processes. He will also have good knowledge of databases, the production engineering environment and common applications used in the field and offices of the production departments.

The architect is expected to co-ordinate all PS design and architecture activities, work closely with all the production groups and provide close supervision during implementation. As such, the architect will be expected to have a broad foundation in petroleum engineering and petrotechnical skills. In addition, the architect will be expected to actively contribute the users' needs to the various 3rd party technology providers based on feedback and requirements from the users which would be gathered during assessment and/or project experience.

Responsibilities

The solution architect will be responsible for the overall design, tuning, troubleshooting of a full infrastructure solution to enable production workflows. This would include multiple elements of the following: network, systems, storage, security, databases, information, and applications. The professionals in this group have mastered the technical competencies, are able to speak the language of production, understand the workflow requirements, and architect optimized solutions.

The main responsibilities of architect's role would include, but is not limited to:

  • Assessment of requirements at each site
  • Based on requirements design integrated solution architecture
  • Produce a detail design document based on the architecture
  • Rapidly build a set of standards for the overall integrated solution
  • Provide assurance during the procurement and implementation of the solution by specialists, many of whom could be from 3rd party vendors.

Competencies

Software competencies:

  • Oracle 9.2 (including PL/SQL scripting)
  • MS SQL 2000
  • MS Access
  • Microsoft Visual Basic
  • MS Excel 2003, Macro and ODBC drivers
  • Basic to advance knowledge of industry leading Production Applications

IT core competencies:

  • Field Control systems ( DCS /SCADA)
  • Highly skilled in Network, Telecommunication, which includes all aspects of network design, installation, configuration, administration, and security
  • Servers and storage technology
  • MS Windows 2003 servers
  • MS Active Directory
  • Configuration of Citrix environments &Publication of Production Applications

Other competencies:

  • PRINCE2 or PMP Qualified
  • Proficiency in Presentation and report writing

Reports To

  • PS Principal Solution Architect
