Instrument and Control Engineer

Staff Position, Aberdeen, Scotland



Our client, a large independent oil & gas operator seeks an Instrument and Control Engineer. This is a staff role to be based in their Aberdeen office.

We are searching for someone with previous strong experience as an Instrument and Control Engineer with an oil & gas operator or service company. Essentially for this role you will have strong experience of the management of day to day issues and troubleshooting, Project Management, planning and scheduling skills, Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental Management and Systems,, experience of Assurance and Verification. Preferably your career background will be in design, maintenance or an operational capacity. You will need to have supervisory experience in terms of vendor management . You will also have strong CMMS skills.

You will need to be computer literate, have knowledge of MS packages, have strong presentation skills, strong planning skills and knowledge of database systems.

You will probably have a minimum of an HND in Instrumentation & Control or an electrical/electronics equivalent professional qualification. Preferably you will have a BSc/BEng or CEng. You must be willing to participate in on call rota.

Your responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Developing & controlling Instrument maintenance budget
  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner to comply with statutory and Company requirements.
  • Input into facilities & upgrade budgets
  • Managing obsolescence issues with facilities and vendors in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Providing best practise solutions and carrying out control system investigations when required (DCS/SCADA/PLC/F&G/ESD etc)
  • Providing day to day operational support & Instrument engineering expertise to client's North Sea Assets.
  • Providing detailed input into Facilities instrument related projects
  • Providing Instrument engineering support for offshore operations.
  • Providing operations engineering input into client's operational certification and verification activities.
  • Reviewing planned maintenance activities and procedures and closely monitor instrument maintenance backlog
  • Undertaking day to day Instrument operational support.
  • Managing subcontract activity within the instrument & control remit
  • Interfacing with certifying authorities on Assurance maintenance matters
  • Interfacing with suppliers, vendors and subcontractors where required
  • Detailed analysis and reporting of SCE activities.
  • Assisting client's project team when needed
