Lead Subsea Structural/Towhead Engineer

Contract position with Global, Multinational Operator, Aberdeen based.
London (Sutton) - Contractors Office
Travel to fabrication site & offshore


Scout Recruitment is on the lookout for an experienced subsea structural engineer to work on an initial 18 month contract for one of our major clients, a global oil and gas Supermajor.

The successful candidate will be accountable for acceptance of all structural, mechanical and marine assurance including lifting operations, weight control, load-out, sea fastening and transportation of deliverables.

Primary Functions & Dimensions:

  • Develop and maintain the structural element of the basis of design through detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, testing, and pre-commissioning.
  • Ensure that production operations requirements are reflected in all designs, including diver access and IRM operations.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to the EPIC contractor(s) on the structural and mechanical design of the manifold and tie-in skid towheads.
  • Ensure that all design cases for all structures are considered, including but not limited to fabrication, lifting, weighing, sea-fastening, load out, transportation, installation, in-place and accidental conditions
  • Review the selection of the coating systems and CP design
  • Review structural piling requirement and provide structural input into the pile design
  • Support HAZOP work with structural technical input
  • Assist the Engineering Manager with structural risk identification and offer options during design for structural risk mitigation
  • Ensure that all structural materials and welding specifications are reviewed by Company Technical Authorities (TA's) and Subject Matter Experts (SME's)
  • Provide site support during the fabrication of the towheads and work with the HSE and Quality Managers to deliver the towheads safely and to technical specifications
  • Ensure closeout of all structural reports and external studies
  • Work with the Engineering Manager to complete an 3rd party Independent Design Verification of the Towheads
  • Monitor and report the adequacy of EPIC contractor's structural resource levels and progress against schedule

Critical Skills:

  • Chartered structural engineer
  • 10-15 years of experience in subsea structures such as production manifolds for bundled pipelines both from a design perspective and offshore installation
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the structural, mechanical and marine design principles relating to subsea structures including legislative requirements and pertinent design codes and standards
  • Experienced with EPIC contracts and working as part of a multi-discipline team
  • Experienced in design safety and engineering QA/QC requirements
  • Experience of marine operations around bundle installation
  • Able to represent discipline internally and externally on technical issues
  • Current offshore survival and medical
