CCIE Senior Network Engineer

Contract Position – Aberdeen, UK

ROLE OVERVIEW & DESCRIPTION

Our client, a SuperMajor Oil & Gas Operator, requires a Senior Network Engineer primarily provide operational support services for Network Services, within EMEA and globally as an integral part of the Global Network Services group.

This role is for candidates who are capable of “hands on” problem solving and issue resolution – you won’t be getting someone to fix things, you’ll be doing it. This isn’t a network design role.

Also, our clients network environment is strictly controlled and highly mission critical so candidates should have experience of strictly controlled production & test environments. To us this means sectors such as Oil & Gas or Financial Services.

This contract role will be based at our clients UK HQ in Aberdeen, UK and will initially be a 6 month engagement.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • The successful candidate will work with the Supervisor, Network Services E&P UK
    • to support Network Operations for the EMEA region and the global FTS when required
    • to deliver Network Services requirements for businesses capital projects
  • Liaise with other members of the Global Network Services team, with the aim of exchanging knowledge, experience and ideas
  • 3rd line support of the Enterprise Network including complex application issues
  • Once familiar with our clients processes, the incumbent will be required to provide IT On-Call duties to business critical applications and associated infrastructure as part of a 24x7 multi-person rota
  • Must be willing to travel, which may include offshore

ROLE REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educated to degree level
    • Non-computing education may be compensated with documented relevant experience of working in similar role for a production / operations facing IT organisation
  • Cisco Certified to full CCIE standard

ROLE REQUIREMENTS – SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate:

  • Must have a minimum of 6-10 years’ experience in an enterprise environment
    • Ideally 3-5 years should be within the oil & gas industry
    • Alternatively experience gained within the financial services sector would be considered a good substitute
  • Must have a strong understanding and experience of change control procedures together with strictly controlled production and test environments
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of competency and experience in enterprise networking
  • Will have experience of application installation troubleshooting in LAN and WAN environments.
  • Have experience in the installation and support of Cisco routers, switches and Wireless in large enterprises including 2900, 3750, 3900, 4500X, Nexus 2000/5000/7000, ASA, WLC
  • Have experience in the installation and support of Cisco VoIP, and IP Telephony in large enterprises including CCM, UCS, FXS, FXO, SIP, H323 and MGCP
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of WAN Networking Technologies, in particular EIGRP, BGP, VPN, QoS, TCP Acceleration
  • Knowledge and experience of WAN acceleration technologies, specifically Riverbed
  • Have experience of/be familiar with large business applications including SAP, Remedy and Citrix
  • ITIL certification would be a distinct advantage

NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Be customer focused and strong communication skills
  • Be a team player that can work with minimal supervision
  • Have the ability to draw on the expertise of the team to deliver the best solutions
  • Have the ability to deliver promises to agreed deadlines
  • Possesses excellent time management and work prioritization skills

ROLE CONTRACT DURATION & RATE

  • Rate is open but will be dependent on candidate’s skills & experience
  • The contract duration will be 6 months initially
