Senior Exploration Geophysicist

Staff Position, Edinburgh, Scotland



Our client, an independent oil & gas operator seeks a Senior Exploration Geophysicist. This is a staff role to be based in their Edinburgh office.

We are searching for someone with 10-15 years experience, a solid technical grounding with a "large" operating company, complete familiarity with workstation interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data (SMT Kingdom suite is the in-house platform), strong interpretive skills, including well/seismic ties and depth conversion, experience of both structural and stratigraphic prospect generation and evaluation, a good knowledge of rock physics and quantitative interpretation techniques and sound working knowledge of seismic planning, acquisition and processing techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with West African experience.

Your role will be to:

Take on many challenges as the principal geophysical resource within a small multi-disciplinary team working on the client's West African assets.

You will be responsible for:

  • Conducting and managing block specific, regional and new ventures seismic interpretation (2D and 3D), mapping and attribute studies
  • Generating and evaluating prospects, working with geological and reservoir engineering staff to maintain the prospect inventory and recommend drilling locations that satisfy technical and corporate objectives
  • Recommending borehole geophysical logging programmes to meet the individual well objectives
  • Providing input to the development and execution of geophysical work programmes
  • Providing supervision and support through acquisition and processing of seismic data
  • Providing supervision and support through planning, execution and interpretation of non-seismic geophysical programmes
  • Ensuring effective communication of geophysical matters by presenting to management, JV partners and Government representatives as required
  • Providing peer review and mentoring for less experienced staff within the team.
