Geotechnical Design Team Lead (U21209)
Shell Canada is currently seeking a Geotechnical Design Team Lead (U21209) for their Calgary location.
Responsibilities:
- Lead geotech design team,responsible for design of tailings dams,pit slopes and waste dumps in compliance with provincial regulations,national or international design guidelines and locally established geotechnical practice.
- Reviews technical work of consultants.
- Authors,signs and stamps geotechnical design reports.
- APEGGA member authorized to seal and issue construction drawings for use.
- Delivers fit for purpose geotechnical designs for dams and large earth structures.
- Provide mastery level technical leadership and direction to the geotechnical design group; from concept through design basis and detailed design.
- Ensure appropriate and or leading edge analyses/technologies are adopted in designs.
- Maintains competencies of design group through training,mentoring and professional development of staff.
- Implement and manage the design group quality management system.
- Final reviews and checks of work by design team before approving for publishing and release.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical, Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering
- Professional Geotechnical Engineer registered or eligible for registration in Alberta
- Previous experience in open pit mining operations
- 15 yrs+ experience in geotechnical engineering
- Individual must be comfortable working in a multitask environment
- Must be able to work well with operations personnel in order to achieve objectives
- Must be prepared to occasionally work in harsh environmental conditions
- Skilled in dyke and dump construction activities, including planning, constructing, monitoring, and reporting
- Skilled in oil sands tailings planning activities, including analyzing and classifying materials, creating storage plans, monitoring placement of materials, and reconciling planned to actual tailing storage
- Skilled in oil sands tailing engineering, including collecting and analyzing data from deposits, predicting and modeling slurry/deposit behaviour, selecting investigation and test methods, assessing tailings behaviour
- Skilled at geotechnical engineering, including assessing and analyzing foundation conditions and construction materials, stability analysis, seepage analysis, stress-strain deformation analysis, planning geotechnical structures, and monitoring and interpreting data from lab and field investigations
- Skilled at performing ground water engineering, including selecting and specifying testing methods and procedures, interpreting and analyzing results, and creating aquifer models and reports
- Skilled in managing geotechnical drilling and instrumentation planning, including selecting appropriate drilling methods, selecting monitoring instrumentation, interpreting instrumentation data
- Knowledge of Oil Sands Geology related to mining and geotechnical operations
- Knowledge of Oil Sands Mineral Processing principles
- Knowledge of Oil Sands Mining practices
- Skilled in specifying protective systems and hazardous area classifications within the tailings environments
- Ability to review and apply maintenance and integrity directions and planning
- Skilled at working with multidiscipline teams to optimize the integrated production systems
- Skilled at managing contracting the procurement processes, including management of sourcing processes and ensuring delivery of contract value
- Skilled in managing teams and individuals
- Skilled at motivating, coaching and developing employees
- Skilled at delivering results through others
