Oil and Gas Market Analyst

This role forms a part of a small team at the corporate headquarters of Teekay Shipping in Vancouver, Canada.

The research group is part of the Strategic Development department which assists in the facilitation of Teekay Corporation's growth strategy and is a vital component of the company's Vision. The department provides day-to-day support across the various departments in Teekay Corporation:

• Identifying / analyzing opportunities
• Reporting and Marketing
• Gathering and channeling market intelligence
• Assisting in setting the trading and asset strategies

• Responsibility for continuous monitoring of the oil and gas tanker market
• Monitoring tanker fleet developments and analyzing the impact on shipping markets
• Collect data for and analyze impact of oil market fundamentals
• Provide support in formulating the companies trading and asset strategies and fulfill the day-to-day market analysis requirements
• Identify new business opportunities and assist with putting together business plans
• Put together various monthly, quarterly and annual market reports
• Providing market data and presentations (internal and external) as required.
• Maintain contact with sources of shipping related intelligence
• Present market / project analysis to internal and external audience via Power Point presentations
• Assist regional chartering offices with their day-to-day data needs
• Assist Sale and Purchase group with research material / reports as required.
• This role will also be involved in cross training to develop an understanding of the shuttle and offshore markets

• Minimum 1-2 years experience working as a market analyst.
• Experience with Clean Petroleum Product or Gas trades highly desirable
• Good knowledge of oil or gas tanker market - including market fundamentals and the shipping market in general.
• Familiar with shipping and oil / gas market data and databases - including sources and reliability.
• Strong analytical skills and conversant with basic statistical methods.
• High attention to detail
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral. Must be comfortable with presenting and public speaking. Submissions of recent work may be required.
• Strong customer orientation.
• Flexible to work effectively within a team or independently as required.

• Ability to manage tight deadlines, and work within an environment with changing priorities.
• Willing to travel and relocate to another Teekay office if required.
• The candidate must be proficient in MS Office products. Experience with other publishing software desirable

• Bachelor/Undergraduate degree with focus on Shipping, International Trade & Transport, Economics or Finance.

• Seafaring experience an asset
