Applications are invited from suitably qualified PhD level or equivalent individuals with extensive industrial and teaching/training experience in Chemical Engineering.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead the teaching and development of discipline-wide and interdisciplinary professionally accredited Chemical Engineering courses in keeping with modern developments in this field. Teaching responsibilities will be up to and including BEng and as the Department develops, to MSc and PhD.

This senior position will be held initially in the Department of Engineering Science, one of the new pioneer departments at the Faculty of Science, although with the growth of Engineering in UBD the organizational structure may change.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research programme particularly, in support of energy related and petrochemical based industries in Brunei Darussalam, supervise post-graduate students, attract external funding, and work with industry sponsors.

The university offers opportunity to develop research and teaching resources within and outside the department.

Terms and Conditions of Service

Appointments are by contract for a period of 3 years and renewable by mutual agreement. Monthly contract salary plus academic allowance will be B$6, 200 for an Associate Professor and B$6,900 for a Professor. Other contractual benefits include: a bonus of one month's salary after each 12 months of satisfactory service; gratuity (25% of last drawn contract salary x 36 months at the end of contract); education allowance and children's passage: subsidised housing (staff contribute B$130 per month); free medical (including dental) services; interest-free car loan; generous paid leave; passage and removal allowance. At present there is no personal income tax in Brunei.
