Fuels Marketing Analyst - Downstream

Role Purpose
The Fuels Marketing Analyst will join a experienced team involved in the analysis of the European retail and commercial fuels marketing sector, complementing the analysis carried out by Wood Mackenzie's refinery and demand analysts. The successful candidate will contribute to the successful European downstream research service, work on consultancy assignments and will also be closely involved in the development of Wood Mackenzie's global fuels marketing expertise. The role offers the opportunity for an individual to build and broaden their existing energy knowledge towards being a recognised expert on the fuels marketing business.
Main Responsibilities
- Researching developments and trends in the fuels marketing sector. This will include researching information on assets, companies, oil product prices and markets
- Providing high quality, written analysis for publication in the evolving suite of downstream subscription products that currently includes Downstream Online and Opal
- Updating both data and analysis on a regular basis will be an important part of the job, providing a platform for further investigation of developing trends.
- Contributing to the development of the downstream products as Wood Mackenzie enhances the delivery and coverage of the existing products
- Supporting the consulting side of the business through contributions to bespoke projects for a wide variety of clients
- Responding to client enquiries and ad hoc requests in a timely manner, and supporting the sales initiatives undertaken by Wood Mackenzie's client management team
- Developing relationships with industry contacts, data providers and clients, including presenting to clients in meetings and via webcalls as appropriate
Key Competencies
- An in-depth understanding of the fuels marketing sector in Europe gained from relevant industry experience such as exposure to the retail and/or commercial fuels market
- A good understanding of pricing and margins of retail and/or commercial fuels
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong organisation and planning skills and the ability to manage own workload within sometimes tight timescales
- Excellent communication skills, enabling you to relate to experts internally and to a range of personnel in client organisations to senior management level
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, including competency in the use of MS Excel
- The ability to work as part of a team involving multiple locations and time zones, including willingness to travel to Wood Mackenzie and client offices
