Job Overview: An independent GIS Consultancy Company in the Oil and Gas E&P sector seeks a GIS Trainer to work at client sites globally, delivering petroleum-based ArcGIS training courses to their oil and gas clients, either at their offices or through public training events. Applicants are invited with proven experience in providing some level of GIS training using ArcGIS software.

This dynamic and expanding specialist GIS consultancy specialises in improving upstream petroleum E&P processes for oil and gas companies by creatively applying spatial technology. They are focused on solving their clients' business problems using a combination of proven consulting methodologies, creative solution design, and their own innovative software products. Their clients range from multi-nationals to smaller independent E&P clients.

In addition to providing training courses, you will interact with client business personnel in order to understand their training requirements in order to develop client specific training courses. You will work closely with pre-sales and business development in helping to position, market and sell these training courses.

You will be expected to undertake travel for short periods within the UK, Europe and worldwide so a willingness to travel is essential. It is estimated that you will spend up to 50% of your time travelling.

Responsibilities: Working with the company's clients, the role will include the following elements:

  • Build relationships with the key players at client sites requesting training. Understand their training needs in terms of priorities, workflows, data flows, and system and application environments.
  • Deliver the Company's established petroleum specific ArcGIS training courses to internal and external clients through private training courses at Client sites and public training courses.
  • Promote the value proposition of the Company's training courses to clients.
  • Maintain the Company's training courses, e.g. updating courses with new features and enhancements.
  • Assist in developing bespoke training courses and materials for clients based on standard Company training courses.
  • Provide support for pre-sales and business development for these training courses.
  • Strive to continue your technical development of ArcGIS products and their application. Keep abreast of trends and practices in the oil and gas industry.

This is an ideal role for an individual with excellent client facing skills and who has previous GIS training experience be this internally to small groups or externally to clients as public or private bespoke training. The role offers the opportunity to advance your knowledge of how GIS is used within the Oil and Gas industry. It offers great scope and variety for an individual who enjoys client-facing activities and who likes to travel.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • First degree or Masters in Earth Sciences or a GIS-related subject essential.
  • Experience in providing GIS training using ArcGIS software either internally or to clients essential.
  • Oil and Gas industry experience using petroleum based systems highly advantageous but not essential. Full training will be provided.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills essential - the ability to interact internally and with clients to arrange and deliver effective training courses.
  • Excellent communications skills essential (both written and oral English), with the ability to listen to requirements, and to deliver training in a clear and articulate manner. This could be on a one-to-one basis, or in a classroom environment.
  • Strong desire to advance your understanding of how GIS is utilised within the oil and gas geotechnical disciplines of exploration and production.
  • The ability to take ownership of your training activities and the tenacity to ensure successful completion in a timely and professional manner.
  • Flexible work ethic.
  • Able to work well independently.
  • Enthusiasm, drive and ambition to succeed.
  • Able and willing to travel as required.

Package: Dependent on skills and experience: an attractive base salary of £25K - £50K is on offer plus additional benefits package including life insurance, private healthcare, pension and discretionary bonus scheme.
