A leading International Seismic Service Company in the upstream oil and gas industry seeks a Junior Sales Geophysicist to support their data processing (DP) sales across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Applicants are invited with a technical background in data processing (minimum of 3 years) and a keen desire to utilise their technical expertise in a sales support role OR a geophysicist with some sales experience. The key to this role is having the confidence and ability to leverage your technical processing knowledge whilst establishing and nurturing strong working relationships with clients in the region. Previous experience dealing with clients either in direct sales, pre/post sales or service delivery is highly desired. The Company is fully committed to providing training in all aspects of their data processing and sales life cycle and you will be mentored by senior level Sales professionals. The Company has a strong reputation as a key leader in integrated seismic services, ranging from conducting Multi-Client surveys to Seismic Imaging services from offices in four continents.
The Company has provided seismic data processing services globally for over a decade. In recent years, they have invested heavily in depth imaging capabilities and have amassed global expertise of different data sets and depth imaging techniques.
Working closely with the DP Sales Manager, you will support all sales activities relating to; the identification of new DP business opportunities both in the UK and internationally, to raise awareness of the Company's DP services and reputation, to compile and provide necessary information for all technical and financial bids, and to effectively follow up all on-going DP projects.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Data Processing Sales Manager, you will :
- Become competent in the Company's work practices and sales life cycle for seismic data processing. Full training will be provided.
- Promote the Company's services; generate interest, focusing on seismic data processing services.
- Be proactive in developing and maintaining key and high level contacts in the industry. Establish relationships of trust - understand the client's technical and commercial requirements for data processing services.
- Assist Sales Team in ensuring that all clients are contacted/ visited on a regular basis and/or when a specific matter arises. Organise structured follow ups, calls and visits.
- Assist the Sales Team with compilation of processing tenders, ensuring all invitations to quote and/or tender are responded to in a professional and timely manner. Liaise with the Sales Team, the Business Development Manager and Data Processing Manager regarding all seismic data processing quotations.
- Discuss the Company's seismic data processing services with existing and new clients. Attend client meetings when required.
- Provide a commercial and technical contact for existing and new clients within designated geographic areas, to discuss the Company's seismic data processing services. This will involve foreign travel (after a period of orientation in the company).
- Maintain effective communications - re the recording /reporting of sales leads, proving full information regarding technical requirements, job schedules, client background etc. to the relevant Team Leader, client feedback re services...
- Work closely with the Team Leads understanding the delivery schedule etc - ensure the Client is aware of any changes in terms of schedule, expectations, price etc.
- Assist with the organisation of exhibitions, conferences, seminars and other promotions as required.
- Keep up to date with the industry news, ensuring new leads and opportunities are targeted and discussed with the Sales Team.
This role is ideal for either a Data Processor who wants to move into a commercial sales role OR an individual with a data processing background and who has client facing experience (e.g. sales, pre/post sales, consultancy…) and looking to expand their commercial and managerial experience. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences or related subject, or relevant industry experience. Higher degree desired.
- Minimum 3 years seismic processing experience essential. Experience or understanding of depth imaging techniques desired.
- Strong marine data processing essential. Exposure to land advantageous.
- A good understanding of the oil life cycle - especially the exploration business essential. A desire to expand your knowledge of licensing rounds and exploration activities internationally.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role highly desirable - e.g. Sales, Business Development, pre/post sales, service delivery. A strong desire to excel and use your technical skills in this client-facing role is key.
- Strong communication skills - the ability to engage and gain the trust of colleagues, clients and partners.
- Confident - ability to make technical and commercial presentation.
- Can work independently and also be an excellent team player, with the ability to work with all levels within the Company to accomplish goals.
- Self-motivated individual, with entrepreneurial attitude and drive to succeed essential.
- Commercially astute - ability to identify new business opportunities when talking with Clients or from networking in the industry.
- Good project management skills -the ability to prioritise competing demands, focus, and make decisions.
- Strong PC literacy with Microsoft applications. Previous experience using/maintaining CRM systems advantageous.
- Highly flexible - ability to adapt to new challenges and work practices.
- Must be able to travel as required.
Package: The Company is open to hiring a Sales Professional OR a Data Processing specialist with a desire to take on this commercial role. As such, a Base Salary of up to £50K plus Bonus and Company benefits packageis on offer dependent on skills and experience. There is some flexibility on Base for a candidate with proven sales experience.
