Job Overview: An International Gas company seeks a Data Manager to work within their E&P Data Management team to deliver consistent quality assured data management services to the Company's exploration and business development geotechnical users. This role is ideal for a pro-active candidate with a strong understanding of subsurface data formats, hands-on data loading and proven experience interacting with the geoscience community and who wishes to expand their data management career working for a rapidly growing operator. Applicants are invited with experience in subsurface geotechnical data management using Petrel, Kingdom and/or Techlog.

Our Client is a global provider of specialized energy solutions, with Exploration & Production being one of their major growth segments. They hold in excess of 30 licences in the UK and act as operator for about one third. They hold approx. 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and are the operator for eight of these exploration licences. The Company explore and develop resources in three target regions: the North Sea, North Africa and Russia with their largest production asset in Russia.

The Company's E&P activities are growing rapidly and as such, there is a major commitment to enhancing the support to these business units through improved data management. Within excess of 50 geoscience data users, the Data Management Team is committed to improving E&P data management policies, procedures, frameworks and best practice workflows and services for their users. This role will support this commitment.

The Client is happy to receive applications from candidates with strong technical hands on subsurface data experience who are looking to make the next step in their data management career, and to take on more of the strategic elements of this role. You will be supported and mentored by other members of the team to further develop your strategic and hands-on data management skills

Responsibilities: The role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's services, work flows and practices.
  • Work within the E&P DM team to deliver consistent quality assured data management services to our exploration and business development geotechnical users.
  • Build relationships with the geoscience community, understanding their data requirements, workflows and processes.
  • Implement and maintain E&P data management frameworks comprising; policies, QA procedures, methodology, best practice and services.
  • Be pro-active in deciding whether work should be undertaken in-house or outsourced to third party organisations, and, when outsourced, manage the delivery of the data within the required timeframe and to Company standard.
  • Provide hands-on technical data management when work is carried out in-house - Approximately 40% of your time will be spent providing this support, with the other 60% undertaking strategic data management.
  • Gather data required by the geoscience community, whether from the in-house data repositories, or from external organisations. Liaise and co-ordinate with external data providers to obtain data.
  • When necessary, travel to other locations (Norway, Algeria and/or Russia) to provide data management support.
  • Maintain and administrate corporate, project or other data repositories.
  • Ensure data complies with statutory data obligations, trades and partner distributions.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree-level education (or equivalent), preferably in geology or a related essential.
  • Extensive experience of geotechnical subsurface data management essential - experience of North Africa, and/or Russian data highly advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of Well, Seismic and Geodetic data management essential.
  • Previous experience loading and managing projects using Petrel, Kingdom and/or Techlog essential.
  • Proven experience interacting with the geoscience community essential - an understanding of their work and data requirements.
  • Additional experience in supporting data management requirement around other Windows based geotechnical applications highly advantageous.
  • Experience and knowledge of GIS and associated data management practices advantageous.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Highly flexible - must be able to adapt to changing demands.
  • Pro-active individual - Self-motivated, adaptable and enthusiastic.
  • French or Russian language skills to business standard highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel on occasion.
