Job Overview: An international gas company seeks an Economist to take responsibility for financial and economic modelling of investment projects, transportation and processing contracts, peer reviews and the management and implementation of relevant IT systems. You will support and work closely with other E&P functions (Technical, Commercial, Business Development and Finance teams), undertake ad hoc Economic and Financial analysis and provide economic support to E&P planning cycles. Applicants are invited with a strong background in petroleum economics, particularly the UKCS Fiscal Regime.

Our Client is responsible for Oil & Gas exploration and production activities, including developing new resources to secure long-term energy supplies and purchasing stakes in oil and gas fields or acquiring exploration and production licenses throughout the world. The Company is currently undertaking Exploration and Development in three main target regions: North Sea, Russia and North Africa.

Responsibilities: The role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's services, work flows and practices.
  • Undertake Exploration and Business Development including:
    • Existing E&A portfolio analysis and ranking
    • Bid Evaluation for Licence rounds
    • Supporting New Ventures activities with economic analysis e.g. Farm-ins
  • Support Business Development with evaluations for acquisitions or disposal activities
  • Assist with developing assets by performing analysis of projects, and evaluations of partners and operators
  • Preparation and presentation of economics for internal/external audit and review
  • Manage, calculate and implement gas contract pricing and transportation and processing tariff models
  • Supporting Commercial Evaluations e.g. GSA Renegotiation, Cost Share, Abandonment liability, Decommissioning provision
  • Support long and medium term planning economics and analysis and risk reporting.
  • Undertake Quarterly Impairment Testing cash flow analysis
  • Perform Commodity Price analysis and responsibility for contract price modelling and calculations
  • Undertake PRT review and calculations where applicable

This is an exciting opportunity for a petroleum economist, who wishes to be part of a dynamic team, assessing an existing international portfolio of exploration and production assets.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Numerate degree and/or obvious numerate work experience essential
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within the upstream oil and gas industry, with a strong background in Petroleum Economics essential
  • Financial and Economic modelling and analysis skills essential
  • Experience using upstream modelling software and key industry economic evaluation tools essential
  • Knowledge of the UKCS Fiscal Regime highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of oil & gas market and the key value drivers essential
  • Corporate Planning/Financial background highly desirable
  • Understanding of Upstream transportation and tariff agreements
  • Excellent IT Skills - including advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills essential
  • Ability to determine project requirements, understand the overall objectives and to work effectively with the team to achieve results essential.
  • Confident, self-motivated and responsive individual with sound judgement and pragmatic in approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
