Job Overview: A highly reputable reservoir knowledge based Company seeks a Senior Petroleum Geology Analyst to augment their team. The Company has since the mid 1990's provided their oil and gas clients with online access to their unique knowledgebase and data base of information and best practice surrounding existing mature basins. They have recently added a new service which focuses on recent discoveries and new frontier basins. With a strong understanding of Petroleum Geology your primary role will be in the development of this new service, building a database of global fields and reservoirs, using public-domain data. Full training on the Company's products and services will be provided in Houston and in the UK. This role is ideally suited to someone who would enjoy keeping abreast of global field activities and summarising their assessments of fields for clients.

With offices in Beijing, Houston and in Berkshire, the Company has expanded their consultancy practice and services considerably over the years. Their highly experienced geoscientists and reservoir engineers have analysed over 1000 proven fields and reservoirs, and the facts and findings are made available online to their clients. This information is accessed by 10K+ users from national/state oil companies to small independents. It is vital for verifying exploration and production hypotheses and increasing confidence in E&P decisions. It gives clients a cost-effective and systematic way to validate their play concepts, benchmark prospects, exam their field development plans, and compare their field performance through well-established examples and proven experiences. The ability to maximise the value of their E&P assets and reduce risk for exploration, development and production has made this a very valuable source of information.

Building upon this success, the Company has now launched a similar service for recent discoveries and new frontier basins. This knowledge base is in its infancy but already of great interest to clients. As an experienced Geologist, your role will be to take responsibility for building and driving this databank. Supported by more junior geologists/researchers, you will investigate and analyse the sourced data and write your geological assessment report for population to the knowledge base.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geologist as you will take responsibility for the technical content of this new information service. You will drive its development and assist as required in the marketing and promotion of its delivery to the client base. The role offers the opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills and to progress your career in undertaking bespoke client consultancy projects.

Responsibilities: The role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's services, workflows and practices.
  • Work closely with the Junior Geologists/Researchers who will undertake market research and source public domain information for you.
  • Review all published information for fields globally.
  • Using the Company's existing standardised classifications of geological, reservoir engineering and performance parameters, input key characteristics of fields into the knowledgebase.
  • Taking the factual information available, undertake the analysis and write short summary exploration histories for each field.
  • Maintain overall integrity and quality assurance of the Knowledgebase.
  • Provide technical input to other Company projects.
  • Provide support and mentoring to more junior staff.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and challenges in relation to exploration/production and development. Be aware of recent developments and potential fields/reservoirs that may be of interest to your client base.
  • Attend industry events and conferences as required.
  • Travel from time to time as required.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Geology, preferably with a relevant MSc
  • Minimum 10 years broad based petroleum geological experience essential.
  • Previous experience with an operator advantageous.
  • Development/production geology is highly advantageous.
  • Previous exploration geology, new ventures experience desired.
  • Previous experience in analysing mature fields advantageous.
  • The ability to collate and analyse data from many sources and make informed technical decisions to support asset evaluation from exploration through to development essential.
  • High degree of numeracy and analytical skills (accuracy and thoroughness are essential requirements in the job).
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a small team.
  • Strong verbal communication skills essential - must be able to convey information and ideas coherently.
  • A strong desire to develop and deliver a successful service to clients globally.

Package: Dependent on skills and experience, a Base Salary of £60K - £80K plus Bonus and gym membership is on offer.
