Job Overview: An Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company seek a Principal Development Geophysicist to join a small integrated subsurface team in their head-office in London, to play a key role in the maximisation of value from their subsurface assets. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 15 years' oil industry experience, with a strong background in seismic interpretation and with significant experience in the identification, development and maturation of development drilling opportunities.

The Company operating since the mid 90's is a FTSE-listed Oil & Gas company and has been highly successful in realising their strategy of developing oil and gas interests in Eastern and Central Europe. Their core assets are centred in and around the states of the former Soviet Union, with specific focus on Ukraine and Russian opportunities, where they have built significant gas production and processing facilities which they own and operate. They have additional assets in Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria. Their activities span the full-cycle E&P value chain of exploration, appraisal, and development through to production.

Their on-going plans are to continue to invest in Eastern and Central Europe and further apply their knowledge to consolidate their position as the most experienced western operator in Ukraine. With a combination of strong financial commitment, an experienced management and geotechnical leadership and a deep understanding of and expertise within this region, they are well placed to deliver their goals.

Responsibilities: Functionally reporting to the Petroleum Engineering Manager, the role is varied and will include the following responsibilities:

  • Main duties will focus around the geophysical input related to the development of subsurface models and will require strong geophysical skills and knowledge in the following areas:
    • seismic interpretation, structural geology and fault modelling
    • velocity analysis and depth conversion
    • mapping, modelling and volumetrics
    • attribute and inversion analysis

This opportunity offers a great deal of variety for a self-motivated and suitably qualified Development Geophysicist to join as a Consultant on a minimum 1 year contract.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Petroleum Geology or Geophysics essential MSc. Desired.
  • At least 15 years oil industry experience essential.
  • A strong background in development geophysics essential. Preference for experience in; identification, development and maturation of development drilling opportunities; building of integrated geo-cellular models; or/and reserves determination.
  • Previous experience of working with an operator essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a small integrated subsurface team highly desired.
  • Competent in using industry geophysical tools essential. Petrel experience highly advantageous.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English essential; must be able to convey information and ideas through presentations and reports in a clear manner that engages the audience and helps them to understand the technical issues involved
  • A proven track record of delivering success at a senior level within the geophysics function.
  • Previous experience of working assets in Russia, Ukraine, and Central & Eastern Europe advantageous.

Package: This is a minimum 1 years' contract and a Consultancy Day Rate of £1000 - £1200 per day is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
