Job Overview: An international gas operating Company seeks a Senior Exploration Geologist to maximize the value of their E&P operated activities in the Rhourde Yacoub project in Algeria, and to assist in the planning and execution of the exploration and appraisal programme for this project. Applicants are invited with a broad exploration geology focus and some North Africa exploration experience.

Our Client is a global provider of specialized energy solutions. They have five business divisions of which Exploration & Production is a global key unit and one of the major growth segments of the Group. They have grown through the purchases of stakes in oil and gas fields and the successful awards of exploration and production (E&P) licenses throughout the world. They hold in excess of 30 licences in the UK and act as operator for about one third. They hold approx. 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and are the operator for eight of these exploration licences. The Company explore and develop resources in three target regions: the North Sea, North Africa and Russia with their largest production asset in Russia.

Our Client has been highly successful in the Rhourde Yacoub license area in Algeria, continuously making further oil and gas discoveries. They have drilled 7 exploration wells and made several encouraging discoveries in this project. They have now entered a new phase and plan to drill several additional wells over the next two years to evaluate the extension of these discoveries.

Responsibilities: This role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's services, work flows and practices.
  • Contribute to the further exploration on the Rhourde Yacoub permit.
  • Evaluate the subsurface discoveries obtained in Rhourde Yacoub so far.
  • Undertake risk analysis and volume assessment.
  • Conduct analysis and integration of well results.
  • Apply appropriate and relevant subsurface evaluation technologies, such as facies analysis.
  • Undertake play analysis and further prospect identification and generation.
  • Undertake geological well preparation.
  • Provide strong project management to this project.
  • Represent the Company in Joint Venture Committees with other partners.
  • Co-ordinate consultancy work as required.
  • Travel on business trips to Algiers and Hassi Messaoud as required.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Geology or similar essential. MSc or PhD Preferred.
  • Strong background in Development Geology essential.
  • Experience of using geological interpretation software essential. Petrel preferred.
  • North Africa experience essential. Algerian experience highly advantageous.
  • New Ventures experience highly advantageous.
  • Ability to lead and develop technical teams to deliver services in a professional and timely manner.
  • Excellent Project planning and management skills - can work in a professional and timely manner.
  • Excellent oral and written skills - confident to discuss and demonstrate prospectivity in a coherent manner both internally and to clients.
  • Self-motivated individual - the ability to use initiative and run geological interpretations single-handed if required.
  • Ability to work in an integrated and interdisciplinary approach.
  • Fluent in English essential. French, Arabic or Russian advantageous.

Package: A Base Salary of £100K - £120K plus Pension, Bonus, Family Health Care, Gym sponsorship and much more is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
