Job Overview: An International gas operating Company seeks a Senior Development Geologist for the Company's appraisal, development and production activities within the assets and fields located in the UK Central and Southern North Sea. You will be responsible for technical evaluations, ranging from reservoir building, volumetric assessments, support for operational activities and participating in screening of new business activities. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 10 years industry experience with a strong background in development/reservoir geology. This is an expanding gas operator and there is great potential for career progression.

Our Client is a global provider of specialized energy solutions, with Exploration & Production being one of their major growth segments. They hold in excess of 30 licences in the UK and act as operator for about one third. They hold approx. 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and are the operator for eight of these exploration licences. The Company explore and develop resources in three target regions: the North Sea, North Africa and Russia with their largest production asset in Russia.

Responsibilities: The role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's business, work flows and practices.
  • Undertake geological evaluation development projects for the UK Southern North Sea (SNS) and for producing assets.
  • Interface between G&G and Well Engineering, Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Commercial etc. The work is conducted in a co-located multi-disciplinary team comprising these various groups of colleagues.
  • Apply subsurface evaluation technologies including reservoir modelling workflows delivering to Field Development Plans.
  • Act as a focal point for Contingent resources in UK Southern Gas Basin, and report these in annual Reserves reporting process.
  • Undertake Licence Round work as required.
  • Be involved in project management and budgets.
  • Represent the Company in Joint Ventures and consortia technical meetings, both operated and non-operated.
  • Be involved in peer reviews within the whole organisation.
  • Contribute to the Company's strategy to further grow the oil & gas upstream portfolio.
  • Support team training, staff development and mentoring.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree-level education, preferably in geology. MSc or PhD preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in Exploration and Production essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Development/Reservoir Geology essential.
  • Reservoir model building experience, including workflows and strategies, ideally using Petrel essential.
  • Ability to quantify risk and uncertainty and to understand the impact on the project essential.
  • Proven experience in UKCS, ideally some of this in the Southern North Sea is highly desired.
  • Experience with New Venture activities needing rapid screening of key risks & uncertainties.
  • Project planning and management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Highly analytical - the ability to resolve complex problems and to recommend solutions.
  • Pragmatic team player who can work at all levels to accomplish goals; has the ability to see the big picture and assertive to make bold and entrepreneurial recommendations desired.
  • Ambitious - desire to succeed in this dynamic growth operator - to develop and grow with the role - take on new challenges and to exceed expectations desired.
  • A good appreciation of the geological requirements for all aspects of the petroleum life-cycle from exploration through development and production.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in presentations.
