Job Overview: A recognised leading provider of specialist services in gravity and magnetic geophysics to oil exploration companies worldwide seeks two additional Project Leaders to support their increasing demand to run multiple concurrent airborne survey projects globally. In this role you will lead and manage the day to day operations of airborne geophysical crews acquiring and processing gravity gradient data worldwide. This role is predominately field based. Applicants are invited with good operations/field experience in airborne or marine environments and the ability and desire to take on this crew leadership role. The Company is open to applicants from oil and gas, geological surveys, hydrographics and/or the air force. This is a rotational role with 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off in countries such as USA, Canada, Columbia, Greenland, North Africa regions…

The Company offers a full range of integrated services surrounding potential exploration field geophysics. Using their pioneered airborne acquisition techniques and analysis of gravity gradient and magnetic data in combination with other conventional methods such as structural geology, seismic data, a more complete exploration solution is derived.

Their ability to demonstrate to explorationists a better understanding of subsurface geology, aids clients to greatly reduce their exploration risk especially in areas of salt and subsalt. Clients globally are increasingly recognising the invaluable geological information that can be gleaned from incorporating gravity and magnetic data in their geological analysis. As such, the demand amongst oil and gas operators for these airborne and marine surveys continues to increase.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Survey Operations Manager your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Lead an airborne field survey crew consisting of geophysicists, aircraft engineers and pilots.
  • Supervise and schedule the work of the field crew in a productive, efficient, and safe manner. Be proactive in anticipating potential problems and in implementing effective solutions. Maintaining a high level of airborne-time is key.
  • Lead the geophysical processor undertaking in-field quality control processing of gravity gradient, GPS, magnetometer and laser ranging data. As required, assist in this task.
  • As required, assist or cover for the Crew Manager to project manage manage field acquisition projects as required including mobilization / demobililization, survey planning, client liaison, and liaison with the aircraft operator.
  • Maintain good working relationships with key personnel in country of survey (e.g. aviation authorities, local contractors, company agents, customers, vendors and suppliers who participate and contribute to the field operations).
  • Although predominately in the field managing the crew operations, you may be required to participate on the plane during the airborne survey.
  • Become knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Company Health & Safety policy and procedures as well as adopting industry standard practice with regard to Health Safety Environment for airborne geophysical operations.
  • Implement quality policy and procedures as required.
  • Promote good team working practices within your crew
  • As required, assist in operating, calibrating and when necessary; repairing airborne acquisition instrumentation in the field.
  • Maintain effective communications with the Company's UK Office.
  • Contribute to the documentation of field procedures and survey reports
  • Undertake training in the Company's techniques and software tools used.
  • Maintain professional awareness of scientific instrumentation and other matters relating to the business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with airborne or marine field experience, leadership skills and who would enjoy working globally on rotation work. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A qualification in Geophysics, Electronics or Aviation preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in a field related airborne or marine environment experience essential. Candidates from oil and gas, geological surveys, hydrographics and air force welcomed.
  • Marine or Airborne survey acquisition experience highly desired. Especially Airborne.
  • The ability to work in and move freely around the confined space of an aircraft for long periods of time essential. Although predominately a field operations role, from time to time you may have to be airborne.
  • Previous experience in a manager, supervisory or leadership role desirable.
  • Strong appreciation of HSE standards and processes in a field environment essential.
  • Good project management skills - the ability to prioritise, resolve problems and contribute to the maintenance of high technical and production standards.
  • Previous experience of geophysical data acquisition, QC or processing advantageous.
  • Experience or knowledge of potential field, gravity & magnetics, or gravity gradient data highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem solving abilities essential.

  • Good report writing capabilities - attention to detail.
  • Strong Team Player - ability to motivate team to work effectively to accomplish goals.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English essential.
  • Positive attitude and problem solving approach.

  • Self-motivated, able to manage your task effectively and escalate problems that you cannot resolve.
  • Previous experience working in remote locations within various multicultural groups desirable.
  • Must be able to travel.

Package: Dependent on skills and experience a Base Salary of £40K - £50K plus Field Allowance, resulting in an annual expected salary of £47K - £57K. In addition, a per diem cost of living allowance is provided.
