Job Overview:
An International gas operating Company seeks a Senior E&P Application Workflow Specialist to manage the outsourced technical applications support team and to provide an advanced level of workflow support for their core exploration and production (E&P) subsurface applications. Working closely with technical counterparts, you will advise on the identification of new technical solutions/enhancements to the existing workflow solutions, and assist in their implementation in an environment that counts more than fifty different subsurface related applications. The role can be based in London or Stavanger with bi-weekly meetings in the other office.
Our Client is a global provider of specialized energy solutions, with Exploration & Production being one of their major growth segments. They hold in excess of 30 licences in the UK and act as operator for about one third. They hold approx. 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and are the operator for eight of these exploration licences. The Company explore and develop resources in three target regions: the North Sea, North Africa and Russia with their largest production asset in Russia.
The Company's E&P activities are growing rapidly and as such, there is a major commitment to enhancing the support to these business units through improved subsurface and drilling application solutions. With approximately 85 subsurface specialists in the UK alone and in excess of 50 subsurface applications, the Technical Application Team is committed to the optimisation of all applications deployed. In doing so, they are undertaking a major review of subsurface applications and workflows in the first instance, and this role will greatly assist in helping to achieve this goal.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Technical Applications Manager your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Manage the technical applications support team. Become the "Service Coordinator", steer/monitor/challenge/direct to improve the application management and user support processes.
- Attain a broad view of the technical subsurface applications portfolio - understand the key functionality and workflow of each application.
- Establish yourself with the user community (e.g. Business Units) as the "go-to person" for advanced level subsurface application support and workflow queries in relation to core applications, in particular Petrel.
- Build relationships with users, understanding their applications, workflows and process. Be proactive in offering advice and guidance in assisting them to maximise their productivity.
- Hold regular face-to-face interaction with users in London and Stavanger in order to provide advice/ understand issues, which will involve frequent travel to London/Stavanger (at least bi-weekly).
- Work closely with software vendor's (current and potential) to keep abreast of software developments and organise lunch & learns to increase knowledge and productivity of user community.
- Explore new functionality/changes in new releases and understand impact on user community and produce 'What's New' documentation.
- Produce or liaise with expert users to produce detailed training/workflow materials and ensure these are made available to user community.
- Ensure support team SLA's and the response and resolution statistics are communicated to the user community.
- Ensure requests for support are logged, tracked, followed-up and resolved in a timely and professional manner.
- Work in a professional and timely manner, ensuring all queries are responded to with a high level of satisfaction.
- Work closely with support team - replicating issues and/or liaise with the software vendor to resolve; user acceptance testing for new applications or upgrades...
- Monitor how software is utilised, asses if underused or additional licenses required.
- Work closely with the 5-6 Discipline IT Coordinator's (DITC's) who represent each of the disciplines (e.g. Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Facilities, Drilling) and are responsible for making decisions regarding the applications used by their discipline - e.g. if new applications or upgrades are required.
- Keep DITC informed of the current status of the applications, software usage, any critical issue, and other matters that could impact the use of these applications.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- MSc in Geoscience or Reservoir Engineering essential.
- Minimum 10 years industry oil and gas industry experience.
- A strong background in subsurface applications, of their functionality, work practices and workflows essential.
- Experience in using or supporting Petrel is essential. Experience in Techlog, GeoX, RockDoc, or/and Eclipse highly desired.
- Previous experience of providing user application support, training or/and workflow analysis essential.
- Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM best practices highly desired.
- Experience of managing outsourced support team desired.
- Willingness to learn, high level of enthusiasm.
- Customer-focused with a high regard to service delivery.
- Strong problem solving skills - the ability to resolve queries from user community with a high level of satisfaction.
- Strong oral and written communication skills - to communicate with users IT/IM colleagues, vendors, support team.
- Ability to produce training/workflow materials.

- Willingness to undertake frequent travel between London/Stavanger (at least bi-weekly), and to other locations as required essential.
