Job Overview:

A recognised leading provider of specialist services in gravity and magnetic geophysics to oil exploration companies worldwide seeks a Processing Geophysicist to join their expanding Processing Team to process gravity and magnetic data and gradiometry data. This is predominately a geophysical processing role but also includes some aspects of field operation support in the USA, Canada, Columbia, Greenland, APAC or Africa regions. Applicants are invited with a geophysical background and some data processing experience of either gravity, magnetic, gradiometry, EM, and/or seismic data. Full training support will be provided in the Company's processing techniques and software used.

The Company offers a full range of integrated services surrounding potential exploration field geophysics. Using their pioneered airborne acquisition techniques and analysis of gravity gradient and magnetic data in combination with other conventional methods such as structural geology, seismic data, a more complete exploration solution is derived.

Their ability to demonstrate to explorationists a better understanding of subsurface geology, aids clients to greatly reduce their exploration risk especially in areas of salt and subsalt. Clients globally are increasingly recognising the invaluable geological information that can be gleaned from incorporating gravity and magnetic data in their geological analysis. As such, the demand amongst oil and gas operators for these airborne and marine surveys continues to increase.

Following full training in the Company's software and work practices, you will process geophysical data acquired by the Company or sourced externally. Available data may include GPS, LIDAR, magnetic field, gravity field, gravity gradient, bathymetry and video data.

Responsibilities: Reporting to a Processing Manager your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

Whilst in the Office:

  • Working alongside experienced team members, you will become competent in the Company's proprietary and industry software, processes and practices.
  • Provide support to the Airborne Operation crews
  • Undertake office based geophysical data processing of raw field data to produce interpretation ready data for the Company and external clients.
  • Maintain accurate and complete logs of all operations performed.
  • Manage and report on processing workflow of projects as assigned and present results to project groups.
  • Strive to optimise quality of the Company's results.
  • Initiate and participate in developing methodologies, technologies and resolutions.

Whilst in the Field:

  • Undertake in-field quality control processing of all data.
  • Work within a team of geophysical technicians, aircraft engineers and pilots on an airborne geophysical field crew.
  • Participate in acquisitions projects and tasks as required e.g. mobilization/demobilization, survey planning and Client and Contractor liaison.

Additional:

  • Strive to deliver a high level of professionalism throughout all your tasks- contribute and adhere to the Company's quality assurance scheme, health and safety policies and procedures, risk management process and production standards.
  • Develop and maintain your geophysical and software skills.
  • Be proactive in developing your geophysical understanding, technologies used, and work practices within the Company and in the general market.

The role offers the opportunity to use innovative technologies and processes and offers excellent potential for global travel and career progression.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • An earth science degree essential. Preferably in geophysics. Post graduate level desired.
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in a geophysical processing role essential.
  • Processing experience in one or more geophysical data types essential e.g. Gravity/Magnetic/Gradiometry/EM or/and Seismic data. Gravity Gradiometry processing highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience using industry standard processing software essential. Experience using Geosoft's Oasis Montaj software highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the application of potential field geophysics to exploration programs - from basin scale geological interpretation to the application of 3D gravity inversion to constrain velocity modelling of salt structures highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to relate to team members and communicate confidently with clients as required.
  • Good project management skills - working unsupervised to ensure a high level of client satisfaction at all project stages.
  • Self-motivated individual - use initiative and lead. The ability to run projects single-handed if required.
