Job Overview: A recognised leading provider of specialist services in gravity and magnetic geophysics to oil exploration companies worldwide seeks an Exploration Geoscientist with a geophysical or geological background and relevant industry experience. Applicants are invited with some experience in interpretation of exploration data (e.g. seismic, well, gravity, magnetic, etc.), Training in gravity and magnetic interpretation provided as required. You will quickly gain exposure to a range of challenges, leading geophysical technologies and established integrated consulting practices. You will be supported and mentored to further develop your technical and project management consultancy skills.

The Company offers a full range of services surrounding potential exploration field geophysics, from airborne surveys, data acquisition, processing, and integrated interpretation projects, including related software. Their pioneered airborne acquisition techniques yield major benefits including lease decisions, seismic location determination, and prospect generation and drilling locations. Through the acquisition and analysis of gravity gradient and magnetic data in combination with other conventional methods such as structural geology, seismic data, a complete exploration solution is derived.

With experience in the interpretation of exploration data you will work within an experienced service team, integrating an array of exploration data to produce geological models that will be used for prospect evaluation by clients. The methodology used helps explorationists gain a complete picture and a better understanding of the subsurface geology, through a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach, demonstrating that significant geological information can be gleaned from gravity and magnetic data in both frontier and mature exploration areas.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Interpretation Group Manager, your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Become competent in the Company's proprietary software and processes.
  • Provide exploration interpretation services - interpreting gravity gradient imaging or conventional gravity and magnetics data with available geological data, for the purpose of building geological models.
  • Working with clients - understanding the technical aspects of their project and communicating clearly and in a professional manner.
  • Build and develop good working relationships with clients - be proactive and strive to maintain a high level of client satisfaction throughout your aspects of the project.
  • Be an active member of the technical team striving to improve interpretation services/products.
  • Where required, support the business/sales effort, by assisting in the writing of technical content of proposals.
  • Provide advice and feedback to the software development team on new enhancements or requested changes.
  • Contribute to or write and deliver papers at conferences.
  • Many of the projects are generated from client referral and repeat business, and a high level of professionalism is required throughout your project delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and ambitious candidate with exploration interpretation experience and who wishes to gain experience in a unique integrated approach to exploration interpretation.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A geophysical or geological degree is essential. MSc level, or PhD level preferred.
  • Experience with a service or oil company, interpreting exploration data (e.g. seismic, well, gravity, magnetic, etc) essential.
  • Strong appreciation of the value of an integrated approach to exploration interpretation - the ability to integrate various data sets to maximise value essential.
  • Proven experience or strong academic knowledge of structural geology or seismic or gravity and magnetic data interpretation highly advantageous.
  • The ability to build geological models highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the application of potential field geophysics to exploration programs - from basin scale geological interpretation to the application of 3D gravity inversion to constrain velocity modelling of salt structures highly advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to relate to team members and communicate confidently with clients.
  • Good project management skills - ensuring a high level of client satisfaction at all project stages.
  • Self motivated individual - use initiative and lead. The ability to run projects single-handed if required.
