Job Overview:
A leading International established Services Company in the Oil and Gas industry seeks two Systems Data Management Implementation Consultants to join their Global Information Team that services clients across Europe, Africa, Middle East and potentially the Asia Pacific. With an understanding of well data, Windows or Linux system environments, and scripting/programming, you will configure and integrate the Company's well data solution within the Client's subsurface environment. It is an exciting role for a geoscientist with some programming skills OR a systems engineer with some exposure to well data and experience of Windows or Linux environments. Configuration training in the software will be provided. The key requirements are strong IT technical competency, willingness to learn and travel, and flexibility and desire to undertake the role and succeed.
The Company's services span all aspects of the upstream oil cycle - from finding hydrocarbons to evaluating the prospects, building the wells, and managing and optimising the production process on behalf of their clients. They have been at the forefront of leading technology advancements for nearly three decades.
The Company's Well Data Management system is recognized as the industry-leading solution for loading, managing, storing, processing and distributing well borehole data. Residing on Windows or Linux system environments, it offers scalability and agility, serving single-use laptops and project data stores as well as corporate databases and national archives. It is highly reliable de facto data store for an oil Company's petrotechnical community, including borehole data specialists, data technicians, petrophysicists, geologists, geophysicists and engineers.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager this role encompasses many functions including:
- Become competent in the use of the Company's system environments (Windows and Linux), the configuration of their geological/petrophysical data stores, workflows and practices. Training will be provided as required.
- When the system has been installed by the System Engineer, you will then commence the customisation process. First you will determine - what geoscience applications are installed, how they are configured, how they are integrated, what data stores are attached, and define the subsurface data workflow.
- Configure the data store for the Client's system environment (e.g. Windows or Linux). A suite of library tools are available to do this but some scripting may be required in SQL, XML or/and Python.
- Ensure that licensing permissions are correct, and that the required individuals have access rights set for the safe, secure storage of their data.
- Ensure that the data application is fully integrated with the Client's other geoscience technologies (i.e. data stores or/and software applications). Interface tools are available but again some configuration may be necessary.
- Work with clients to optimise this data store within their system environment and petrotechnical workflow.
- As required, support data migration projects and the transferring of data from corporate, project and application data stores.
- Implementation projects may require onsite support (e.g. 1 to 3 weeks at a time) or via remote access.
- In order to help manage and enhance customer relations, you will provide regular follow-up calls to clients in a timely and professional manner, visit client sites to resolve problems etc., provide status updates, and report problems.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
- Degree in a numerate discipline such as computer science, IT, or geoscience related essential. A geology/logging/petrophysical academic background advantageous.
- Academic or work experience of Well Data essential.
- Proven track record of software installations on Windows and Linux system environments essential.
- Experience in writing/modifying SQL scripts or/and programming in XML or/and Python essential.
- Previous experience of implementing data management solutions desired. Oracle based solutions highly desired.
- Experience of installing or/and customising geological/petrophysical data stores highly desired (e.g. Recall, Geolog…) but full training provided.
- Strong project management and reporting skills essential - must be able to multitask and be methodical in approach.
- Excellent client liaison skills as you will deal with clients across Europe, Africa, Middle East and Far East region.
- Excellent communication skills - ability to relay technical information in an easy to understand manner.
- Motivated and enthusiastic with a positive attitude.
- Attentiveness to detail & responsive to client needs.
- Can work independently and also be an excellent team player - must be able to deliver installations effectively.
- Highly flexible - ability to adapt to new project challenges and work practices.
- Drive and ambition to succeed within a fast growing Company.
- European languages beneficial.
- Must be able to travel internationally.
