Job Overview:
An International gas operating Company seeks a Development & Production Geologist to contribute to technical evaluations to progress the Company's appraisal, development and production activities in the assets and fields located in the UK Central and Southern North Sea. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 5 years industry experience with some experience in reservoir building, volumetric assessments, and support for operational activities. This is an exciting role working for an expanding gas operator that offers great potential for career progression.
Our Client is a global provider of specialized energy solutions, with Exploration & Production being one of their major growth segments. They hold in excess of 30 licences in the UK and act as operator for about one third. They hold approx. 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and are the operator for eight of these exploration licences. The Company explore and develop resources in three target regions: the North Sea, North Africa and Russia with their largest production asset in Russia.
The work is conducted in a co-located multi-disciplinary team including colleagues in geophysics, well operations, petrophysics and reservoir engineering. You will gain exposure and experience across these disciplines.
Responsibilities: Reporting to Manager Development & Production Geosciences, the role encompasses many functions including:
- Become competent in the Company's business, work flows and practices.
- Conduct technical evaluations to progress the Company's appraisal, development and production activities in the assets and fields located in the UK Central and Southern North Sea.
- Contribute to reservoir building, volumetric assessments, support for operational activities and participation in screening of new business activities.
- Deliver quality contributions to relevant decision points.
- Apply specialist knowledge to discussions with partners to influence work programmes and key decisions.
- Provide input to other project teams and individuals within the department to ensure that specialist skills and experience are appropriately shared and leveraged across the organisation.
- Apply subsurface evaluation methods including geological correlation, geological/reservoir mapping and 3D reservoir characterisation and modeling, as input to Field Development Plans and Reservoir Management strategies.
- Ensure that uncertainties inherent in data and interpretation are properly communicated and the effect of these uncertainties on results is understood.
- Identify and characterise risks & inputs to resource estimation.
- Preparation of both deterministic and probabilistic GIIP and STOIIP estimations. Focal point for Contingent resources, with input to the annual Reserves reporting process.
- Well-site geological operations and data acquisition (mudlogging, LWD/wireline logging, coring etc.).
- Represent the Company in reservoir committees for Operated or Non-Operated licenses.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have:
- An earth science related degree essential - preferably in Geology. MSc or PhD preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years oil and gas industry experience essential.
- Strong geological evaluation experience essential.
- Familiarity with geology & tectonic history of the N.Sea required
- Some operator experience desirable.
- Ability to quantify risk & uncertainty and to understand the impact on the project essential.
- Ability to generate ideas & mature them through to decision points essential.
- Appreciation of geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering and petroleum engineering disciplines essential. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of standard geological tools and software, including 3-D reservoir modelling (e.g. Petrel or other mapping / visualisation tools) essential
- Experience in the preparation of static input to reservoir simulation studies.
- Ability to manage change, balance several projects simultaneously & work effectively under tight timelines.
- Learns from mistakes, pursues success, and aspires for continued personal development & functional expertise.
- Values the importance of technical quality, but is able to ensure that the scope of technical work is consistent with the magnitude of the decision.
- Strong listening skills but assertive with the ability to influence decisions.
- Strong written & oral communication skills, including presentation to peers and to management.
- Able to deliver results in a flexible and energetic manner and comfortable with a "hands-on" style of working.
