Job Overview: A global provider of geoscience data and integrated services to the oil and gas industry seeks a Senior Petrophysicist to lead and provide petrophysical services. You will drive technical excellence and mentor and coach junior team members. Applicants are invited with at least 8 years petrophysical experience, focused on petrophysical data interpretation as well as defining formation evaluation programs. Proven experience in supervising, leading or/and managing a team in the delivery of petrophysical studies highly advantageous but the key to this role is a strong technical petrophysical background with the ability to lead a team. The Company is interested in applications from mid-senior level candidates. Great career prospects working for an expanding Company.

The Company provides extensive global geophysical and geological data libraries that include multi-client seismic data, magnetic and gravity data, digital well logs, production data and directional surveys. They offer advanced processing and imaging services, interpretation products, and data integration solutions.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team, including Geologists and Geophysicists your primary responsibility will be to provide expert Petrophysical services for The Company's multi-client projects, client focused consulting projects related to prospect evaluation. This includes technical support of the client's licence round applications and other international exploration activities.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Geology, you will undertake many activities, such as:

  • Become competent in the suite of petrophysical products used (i.e. ELAN and windows-based software like Interactive Petrophysics). Understand workflows and processes.
  • Take responsibility for providing Open & Cased Hole interpretation, including general Formation Evaluation. Provide petrophysical expertise to prospect-specific evaluation projects relating to new licensing rounds and exploration efforts internationally.
  • Knowledge and experience of reservoir characterisation leading to subsurface modelling is an advantage.
  • Build relationships with the client base - understand their challenges and constraints, the technical requirements and deliverables of the project and the timelines involved.
  • Work with Sales in supporting their efforts in selling petrophysical projects.
  • Prepare proposals for projects.
  • Mange project delivery throughout - ensuring that projects are delivered in a timely and professional manner.
  • Present results to clients in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ensure quality of the data and interpretations and develop a quality assurance programme
  • Build petrophysical databases.
  • Mentor and coach more junior petrophysical staff, ensuring they fully understand the principles and applications of Petrophysics. Strive to develop their skills and understanding of current industry trends and practices in this discipline.
  • Promote Petrophysical understanding and appreciation across other disciplines.
  • Become the focal point within the office for Petrophysical leadership.
  • Be proactive in keeping abreast of industry trends and practices in relation to Petrophysics.
  • Promote awareness and reputation of the Company's services at trade shows, industry events, case studies, journals...

The Company is expanding and this senior level role offers a great opportunity for an ambitious petrophysicist with relevant experience, who can develop the technical petrophysical competencies of the team whilst conducting varied and interesting project studies on behalf of national and international clients.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in an Earth Science subject essential.
  • Minimum 8 years industry experience essential
  • Proven Petrophysical experience essential - covering integrated Petrophysical studies, focused on Petrophysical data interpretation.
  • Proven experience in supervising, leading or/and managing a team in the delivery of Petrophysical studies highly advantageous.
  • A good understanding on the functionalities and limitations of both open and cased hole logging tools preferred. (e.g. LWD/MWD tools).
  • A background of integrating insights gathered from Petrophysics and Rock Physics into broader Geological and Geophysical interpretations is desired.
  • Some experience of unconventional reservoirs (including shale oil/gas, tight reservoirs, reservoir studies advantageous.
  • Excellent English communication skills - the ability to convey technical information and ideas in a clear, succinct manner and to present results internally and to clients.
  • Strong leadership skills - can plan and lead technical projects. Can nurture and develop junior staff, and promote Petrophysical technical excellence across the Company.
  • Strong Project Management skills - can manage all aspects of concurrent projects.
  • Experience in logging technology including log acquisition, processing and interpretation essential.
  • Solid knowledge of at least one major petrophysical software package essential. Proficiency in using ELAN and/or windows-based software like Interactive Petrophysics preferred.
  • The ability to carry out all stages of Petrophysical data preparation, (data loading, depth-matching, editing, environmentally correcting, log normalization, splicing of data etc).
  • Experience of working North Sea and the Norwegian Continental Shelf projects advantageous, but a varied regional experience is also important.
  • Excellent networker - able to develop and nurture professional relationships both internally and externally with clients and suppliers.
  • Self-motivated, working with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ambitious with a strong desire to accomplish results and achieve a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to keep abreast of new petrophysical trends and technologies in this market and to promote internally.
  • Ability to travel.

Package: This is a senior level role and the Company offers up to £100K for a high calibre candidate. Plus an attractive Bonus Scheme and benefit package is offer. Bonus paid on quarterly basis.
