Job Overview: A Global Leader in the fast growing seabed acquisition market seeks a Commercial Engineer to work within the Company's Seismic Acquisition Operational Group, to help manage the full bidding preparation process, from clarifications, cost building, price definition to the final technical and commercial offer drafting and review developing new tools to improve bidding efficiency and competitiveness. Applicants invited with a strong understanding of the marine seismic acquisition business and some experience in the commercial aspects of bid formation/proposal preparation and pricing. The Company's main business units include Tranisition Zone and Shallow Water, Intermediate Depth and Deepwater, Permanent reservoir solutions and Electromagnetic and Magento-Telluric. They offer a unique combination of decades of subsea and seismic experience and have the critical mass to provide services to global clients, together with an unsurpassed ability to acquire data in depths of between 1.5m and abyssal depths down to over 3,000m.

They are a leading provider of seabed seismic and non-seismic solutions and associated services such as processing, analysis and interpretation. These services focus on optimizing surveys from planning, through acquisition, to delivery of final processed volumes. They offer full-azimuth broadband seismic datasets allowing enhanced reservoir complexity resolution, constraining inversions and further defining and refining reservoir development decisions.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Commercial Engineering Manager this role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's work practices and solutions.
  • Working along-side an established team you will help manage the full bidding preparation and pricing process, from clarifications, cost building, price definition to the final technical and commercial offer drafting and review.
  • Participate in Client meetings in the project initiation stage, clarification stage, fully understanding the Client requirements, expectations, challenges and constraints.
  • Building the commercial offer:
    • Review the tender documentation, evaluate and propose the best solution (technically, commercially, contractually) to address the client's expectations and the Division's own interests.
    • Organise mutually the contributions of the Division's experts (technical pools, HSE, legal, financial, contractual, etc).
    • Define the crew structure, strategy and performance, and evaluate the cost and risk of the proposed solution.
    • Organizing or participating in scouting trips, when necessary.
  • In cases where the offer is prepared by the local agency, assist the Bid Manager in building the technical and commercial offer, review and challenge the offer before final submission.
  • Participate or assist in the final contractual negotiations before the project is passed to Operations.
  • Validate the technical and commercial negotiations.
  • Use knowledge of the project preparation to assist in the project startup and handover to Operations.
  • Propose and participate in the creation of innovative tools and solutions to better address the challenges of fast and accurate cost estimations, better productions follow-up, improved workflows, etc.
  • Participate in the implementation and training of these new tools.
  • Keep abreast of the competition - pricing, trends, reputation, new solutions...

Working out of the Company's Paris office, which is in the southern suburbs of Paris, you be given a great deal of autonomy and scope in this role. The key is a strong understanding of the Marine Seismic Acquisition industry and the ability to review tenders and to identify and collate all biding information for a winning proposal. The process is fully defined in terms of parameters that need to be considered, and you will be fully trained in the entire bidding and business process. The Company is expanding so strong potential for career progression.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree preferred. Preferably in geophysics or commercial discipline.
  • A broad range of operation expertise in the marine seismic acquisition industry essential. Preferably experience across marine survey project initiation, planning and execution of acquisition projects in OBC and/or Shallow Water.
  • Field management experience on marine seabed crews highly advantageous. (e.g. the mobilizations / demobilizations of crew). Experience as Party Manager, Party Chief or Supervisor on seabed crews highly advantageous.
  • Commercially astute essential. The ability to identify and incorporate all required items in the proposal, identify risk and to allow for contingencies. A financial proficiency is highly desired.
  • Strong team player but also can work independently - can prioritise and work on concurrent proposals.
  • Willingness to travel - Scouting trips, client meetings etc.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English - the ability to communicate and collaborate across a broad spectrum of nationalities and cultures - both internally with service providers and externally with clients and third party service providers.
  • Can see the big picture but attention to detail with a strong focus on delivering wining proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to work at all levels within the Company to accomplish goals.
  • Very good knowledge of Office suite

Package: A Base Salary of €60K - €70K Euro plus 10% bonus + good benefit package is on offer. There may be some flexibility on salary for a high calibre candidate.
