Job Overview: An Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company seek a Senior Development Geophysicist to join a small integrated subsurface team in their head-office in London, to provide geophysical input to field development projects. Applicants are invited with proven development geophysical background. The Company welcomes applicants with 8 years to 30 years' experience in the identification, development and maturation of development drilling opportunities.

The Company operating since the mid 90's is a FTSE-listed Oil & Gas company and has been highly successful in realising their strategy of developing oil and gas interests in Eastern and Central Europe. Their core assets are centred in and around the states of the former Soviet Union, with specific focus on Ukraine and Russian opportunities, where they have built significant gas production and processing facilities which they own and operate.. Their activities span the full-cycle E&P value chain of exploration, appraisal, and development through to production.

Responsibilities: Functionally reporting to the Subsurface Manager, the role is varied and will include the following responsibilities:

  • Development Studies
    • Provide interpretation of 3D and 2D seismic across existing fields.
    • Ensure seismic and positioning data integrity at all times.
    • Generate synthetic seismograms for well ties.
    • Deliver surfaces with rigorous quality assurance of autotracking parameters; absence of loop skips; and honouring well calibration data.
    • Undertake velocity modelling and depth conversion;
    • Provide reliable structural framework for static geological model construction for depth surfaces and fault surface populations.
    • Integrate seismic data with geological reservoir information to provide, where possible, characterisation for input into subsurface models
    • Manage quantitative interpretation studies as required (eg inversion, AVO analysis, PS reprocessing projects).
    • In light of new interpretations, update reserves and risk knowledge, provide input into reservoir models for development planning
    • Provide support and input for generating well proposals.
    • Provide operational assistance and interfacing among RE, Drilling and G & G functions.
  • Exploration/Appraisal Studies;
    • Participate in occasional exploration TCMs .
    • Provide input as required into the evaluation of appraisal/exploration acreage for new opportunities.
  • Geophysical Workflow;
    • Contribute and provide oversight to the overall geophysical workflow from acquisition and through to effective interpretation of the seismic data
    • Specify, scope, tender and manage external seismic contracts including processing, acquisition and QC consultants.

This senior level opportunity offers a great deal of variety for a self-motivated and suitably qualified development geophysicist to provide input to all field development projects and to influence the direction of field studies. Working for a small independent oil operator, the role offers a dynamic work place, where financial rewards can be high, and opportunities for further technical and managerial progression is available.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Petroleum Geology or Geophysics essential MSc. Desired.
  • A minimum of 8 years oil industry experience with proven seismic 2D and 3D interpretation experience essential.
  • A strong background in development geophysics essential - e.g. in the identification, development and maturation of development drilling opportunities; building of integrated geo-cellular models; or/and reserves determination.
  • Previous Experience in using advanced seismic techniques (including AVO analysis, Inversion) and quantitative interpretation processes.
  • Previous experience of working with an operator essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a small integrated subsurface team highly desired. Must integrate and work closely across Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Facilities, etc.
  • Competent in using industry geophysical tools essential. Petrel and Kingdom experience highly advantageous.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English essential; must be able to convey information and ideas through presentations and reports in a clear manner that engages the audience and helps them to understand the technical issues involved
  • A proven track record of delivering success at a senior level within the geophysics function.
  • Previous experience of working assets in Russia, Ukraine, and Central & Eastern Europe advantageous.

Package: The Company welcomes applicants from 8 years' experience upwards. A Base Salary of £80K - £140K plus an attractive benefits package is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
