Job Overview: A world leader in the production of hydrocarbon based energy is building a leading "Unconventional Gas Team" and seeks a Senior Geologist to contribute to their advancement in unconventional gas basins. Applicants are invited with 15 years' min industry experience, some of which is in unconventional gas exploration, combined with skills/experience in a range of disciplines such as geological evaluation; characterization of fractured reservoirs; sequence stratigraphy; geochemistry; petroleum systems; and/or log analysis. Working on a Tax Free, Expat contract for two years' min in an exciting role, driving the advancement of unconventional, you will have the opportunity to become a leading Geologist within Unconventional Gas Exploration.

The Company has committed to refocusing their business strategy with an emphasis on the development of natural gas. They are pursuing opportunities in unconventional resources, and as such are building a leading technological team of unconventional gas experts. As part of this commitment they have increased their exploration and production budget by billions ($) largely to develop gas resources and unconventional resource potential. Their objective over forthcoming years is to replace their current oil economy with a natural-gas-based economy. This is a paramount strategy and hence the importance of building a strong experienced "Unconventional Team".

The Company currently operates in excess of 140 rigs and plan to add an additional 37 rigs by the end of this year - predominately for natural gas. But with their commitment to develop gas and unconventional resources, the number of rigs is forecasted to rise extensively over the next few years. In addition, they have invested heavily in recent years in international R&D centres and research alliances to drive their technological advancements and to accelerate their deep-water and shale activities.

Responsibilities:Reporting to Unconventional Gas Team Leader, the role encompasses many functions including:

• Become competent in the Company's exploration program for unconventional resources - understanding their challenges, technologies available etc.
• Work in an integrated team understanding the challenges and constraints of the objectives at hand, sharing ideas, recommending quality solutions, advancing the technical knowledge of the group.
• Depending on your area of expertise, contribute to some or all of the following:
• Regional geological evaluation of unconventional plays.
• Structural characterization of naturally fractured reservoirs.
• Sequence stratigraphic analysis.
• Geochemistry, petroleum systems and basin modelling
• Reservoir characterization in unconventional hydrocarbons plays (tight gas, shale gas, unconventional oil, and/or coal bed methane).
• Log analysis and interpretation in unconventional reservoir.
• Contribute to the success of the exploration of unconventional resources.
• Provide geological support to drilling operations in unconventional plays.
• Apply your specialist knowledge and experience to discussions with colleagues and third parties to influence work programmes and key decisions.
• Continue to develop your geological knowledge base especially within unconventionals. Keep abreast of industry trends and practices.
• Attend relevant seminars/conferences and discussion forums re your speciality.

This Unconventional Gas Team will consist of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, reservoir simulation engineers, geomechanic specialists, geomodellers, drilling/completions/stimulations engineers and many more. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

• A Geological or related degree. MSc or PhD highly preferred.
• A minimum of 15 years oil and gas industry experience essential.
• A strong Geological exploration background in geological analysis and assessment of exploration projects for unconventional gas basins essential.
• Proven expertise in geological evaluation; characterization of fractured reservoirs; sequence stratigraphy; geochemistry; petroleum systems; and/or log analysis essential.
• Experience in locating and providing geological support to drilling operations in unconventional plays essential.
• Proven ability to integrate 3D seismic into your geological evaluations essential.
• A drive to be at the leading edge of technological and work practice advancement within unconventional exploration.
• Proven experience using industry standard geological technologies essential.
• Enjoys working in an integrated and interdisciplinary team essential.
• Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage with team players and management in a technically coherent manner essential.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships within the team and across the Company as required essential.
• Previous experience working or living in the Middle East advantageous.
• Proactive, flexible and enthusiastic.
