Job Overview: A world leader in the production of hydrocarbon based energy is building a leading "Unconventional Gas Team" and seeks a Senior Reservoir Engineer to contribute to their advancement in unconventional gas exploration. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 15 years industry experience, some of which is in unconventional gas plays, a strong reservoir engineering background with skills/experience in workover/recompletion program design, wellsite supervision, pressure analysis, material balance etc. Working on a Tax Free, Expat Contract for a minimum of two years in an exciting and challenging role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to become a leading Reservoir Engineer within the realms of Unconventional Exploration.

The Company has committed to refocusing their business strategy with an emphasis on the development of natural gas. They are pursuing opportunities in unconventional resources, and as such are building a leading technological team of unconventional gas experts. As part of this commitment they have increased their exploration and production budget by billions ($) largely to develop gas resources and unconventional resource potential. Their objective over forthcoming years is to replace their current oil economy with a natural-gas-based economy. This is a paramount strategy and hence the importance of building a strong experienced "Unconventional Gas Team".

The Company currently operate in excess of 140 rigs and plan to add an additional 37 rigs by the end of this year - predominately for natural gas. But with their commitment to develop gas and unconventional resources, the number of rigs is forecasted to rise extensively over the next few years. In addition, they have invested heavily in recent years in international R&D centres and research alliances to drive their technological advancements and to accelerate their deepwater and shale activities.

Responsibilities: Reporting to Unconventional Gas Team Leader, the role encompasses many functions including:

  • Become competent in the Company's exploration program for unconventional resources - understanding their challenges, technologies available etc.
  • Contribute to the success of the exploration of unconventional gas resources.
  • Work in an integrated team understanding the challenges and constraints of the objectives at hand, sharing ideas, recommending quality solutions, advancing the technical knowledge of the group.
  • Depending on your area of expertise, contribute to some or all of the following:
    • Oil and gas fields development and production operations
    • Workover/recompletion program design and wellsite supervision to include coil tubing, wireline, stimulation, snubbing, log analysis, etc.
    • Surface facility design including compression, gas metering, tank batteries, dehydration, treaters, separators and production units, pumping units, etc.
  • Apply your specialist knowledge and experience to discussions with colleagues and third parties to influence work programmes and key decisions.
  • Continue to develop your reservoir engineering knowledge base especially within unconventionals. Keep abreast of industry trends and practices.
  • Attend relevant seminars/conferences and discussion forums re your speciality.

This Unconventional Gas Team will consist of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, reservoir simulation engineers, geomechanic specialists, geomodellers, drilling/completions/stimulations engineers and many more. It is an exciting time to join this prestigious team, contributing to the major advancement of exploration for unconventional resources.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • A Petroleum Engineering or related degree. MSc or PhD highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years oil and gas industry experience essential.
  • A strong reservoir engineering background with experience in Oil and gas fields development and production operations essentials.
  • Proven downhole experience essential - preferably to include rods and pumps, plunger lifts, gas lift, hydraulic pumps, submersible pumps, tubing and packers, etc., operating expense analysis, decline curve analysis, well-test analysis, pipeline design and installation.
  • An understanding of geology and reservoir mechanics essential. An ability to perform pressure analysis, material balance and have the ability to read logs, understand Formation evaluation, Core analysis, Geomechanics and stimulation data.
  • An ambition to be at the leading edge of technologies and work practice advancement within unconventional exploration.
  • Proven experience using industry standard reservoir engineering technologies essential.
  • Enjoys working in an integrated and interdisciplinary team essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage with team players and management in a technically coherent manner essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships within the team and across the Company as required essential.
  • Previous experience working or living in the Middle East advantageous.
  • Proactive, flexible and enthusiastic.
