Job Overview: A world leader in the production of hydrocarbon based energy is building a leading "Unconventional Gas Team" and seeks a Senior Petrophysicist to contribute to their advancement in unconventional gas exploration. Applicants are invited with a minimum of 15 years industry experience, some of which relates to challenging petrophysical issues, preferably related to tight gas sands and/or source rock/shale evaluation. Working on a Tax Free, Expat Contract for a minimum of two years in an exciting and challenging role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to become a leading Petrophysicist within the realms of Unconventional Gas.

The Company has committed to refocusing their business strategy with an emphasis on the development of natural gas. They are pursuing opportunities in unconventional resources, and as such are building a leading technological team of unconventional experts. As part of this commitment they have increased their exploration and production budget by billions ($) largely to develop gas resources and unconventional resource potential. Their objective over forthcoming years is to replace their current oil economy with a natural-gas-based economy. This is a paramount strategy and hence the importance of building a strong experienced "Unconventional Team".

The Company currently operate in excess of 140 rigs and plan to add an additional 37 rigs by the end of this year - predominately for natural gas. But with their commitment to develop gas and unconventional resources, the number of rigs is forecasted to rise extensively over the next few years. In addition, they have invested heavily in recent years in international R&D centres and research alliances to drive their technological advancements and to accelerate their deepwater and shale activities.

Responsibilities: Reporting to Unconventional Gas Team Leader, the role encompasses many functions including:

• Become competent in the Company's exploration program for unconventional resources - understanding their challenges, technologies available etc.
• Contribute to the success of the exploration of unconventional gas resources.
• Work in an integrated team understanding the challenges and constraints of the objectives at hand, sharing ideas, recommending quality solutions, advancing the technical knowledge of the group.
• Depending on your area of expertise, contribute to some or all of the following:
• Managing subsurface property uncertainties
• Designing data acquisition programs to address key uncertainties
• Log analysis, including calibration with core and analogues, on exploratory and multi-well, field-wide Petrophysical models
• Petrophysical support for an unconventional play or development
• Apply your specialist knowledge and experience to discussions with colleagues and third parties to influence work programmes and key decisions.
• Continue to develop your petrophysical knowledge base especially within unconventionals. Keep abreast of industry trends and practices.
• Attend relevant seminars/conferences and discussion forums re your speciality.

This Unconventional Gas Team will consist of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, reservoir simulation engineers, geomechanic specialists, geomodellers, drilling/completions/stimulations engineers and many more. Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

• An Earth Science or related degree. MSc or PhD highly preferred.
• A minimum of 15 years oil and gas industry experience essential.
• A strong petrophysical background some of which in unconventional gas essential. Experience dealing with petrophysical challenges/issues of tight gas sands and/or source rock/shale evaluation highly desired.
• Experience managing subsurface property uncertainties and designing data acquisition programs to address key uncertainties desired.
• Proven ability to carry out log analysis, including calibration with core and analogues, on exploratory and multi-well, field-wide Petrophysical models essential.
• Strong working knowledge of wire-line tool responses, including those heavily utilized for unconventional reservoir characterization desired.
• A strong petrophysical understanding/background in acquisition, QC and use of core-derived Petrophysical properties including exposure to unconventional measurements from Shale and Tight Gas cores desired.
• A drive to be at the leading edge of technological and work practice advancement within unconventional exploration.
• Proven experience using industry standard log analysis technologies essential. Geolog and Techlog highly desired.
• Enjoys working in an integrated and interdisciplinary team essential.
• Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage with team players and management in a technically coherent manner essential.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships within the team and across the Company as required essential.
• Previous experience working or living in the Middle East advantageous.
• Proactive, flexible and enthusiastic.
