Job Overview: A leading Geological Consultancy is seeking a Junior Geologist to join its team of Consultants.

Established for more than five years, with offices in the UK, Australia and North America, the Company boasts an impressive array of blue-chip clients for its range of data processing, borehole interpretation and reservoir modelling services, including several of the largest multinational integrated oil and gas production companies.

Although it specialises in borehole imaging and dipmeter interpretation, the Company offers a wide range of borehole geology interpretation services, ranging from core descriptions and petrography to geological interpretations of production log and flowmeter data. In order to better meet the needs of its clients the Company is looking to further strengthen its consultancy team.

With a strong academic geological background or geological work experience, you will work initially alongside a team of senior consultants, involved in a range of consultancy assignments. However the Company is committed to supporting and mentoring all its employees, and as you gain experience it is expected you will increasingly take responsibility for more independent consulting assignments, progressing ultimately to a senior consultant level. Training will be provided as required.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recently graduated geologist with outstanding qualifications and technical skills but limited experience to become part of a highly technical, well-regarded and rapidly expanding Geological Consultancy.

Responsibilities: Working alongside senior consultants your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Applying your geological understanding to analysing borehole imaging and other well data
Preferences: The key requirements for this role are enthusiasm, flexibility, willingness to learn and a commitment to success. Applications are welcome from recent Earth Science graduates or more experienced individuals with an Earth Science background, who want to change direction or broaden their careers. Specifically, the successful candidate will have:
  • Degree in Geology or Earth Science essential, with postgraduate qualifications in Sedimentology or Structural Geology preferred
  • Relevant oil industry experience preferred, especially experience gained with an operator, but recent graduates with good post-graduate qualifications will be considered
  • Some exposure to international operations highly desirable
  • Good understanding of Exploration and/or Production data, data formats and data workflows essential
  • Exposure to Recall and /or TerraStation software advantageous
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills essential; must be able to convey information and ideas in a clear manner that engages the audience and helps them understand the technical issues involved
  • Must be a team player
  • Highly flexible - ability to adapt to new project challenges
  • Customer/Service focused
  • Willingness to travel essential
Package: An attractive package of £26K - £30K (GBP) per year is on offer, dependent on skills and experience, and other benefits. There may be some flexibility on salary for an exceptional candidate.
