Job Overview: A Company established in 1986 providing earth science mapping and exploration technologies seek a Geological Technical Support Specialist to support their growing business in Europe and Africa.

The company is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with offices in South America, Europe, South Africa and Australia. Their partner network provides additional coverage throughout the United States and across the globe, in Russia, India and China. Their established software simplifies geospatial data access and analysis for improved understanding, knowledge development and business decision-making in industries such as mineral exploration, oil and gas, government, and in environmental investigations and UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) detection. Their suite of software covers mapping, visualisation of subsurface drillhole and borehole data, ArcGIS tools, and tools to deliver and access large geoscientific datasets via the Internet or Intranet.

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide functional and technical support to their clients and regional offices in the use of Company products. The role offers a great deal of variety and scope as you will provide application support, get involved in research, IT projects etc. It is a hands on position that requires a diverse set of technical skills as well as the ability to keep up with ever-changing technology and end user needs. The Company recognise that you will require training in their software and are committed to providing all necessary training.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Managing Director, your time will be split approximately over the following functions:

70% Technical Support/Customer Service:

  • Provide advice and guidance to clients and regional offices in the operational use of the Company products to resolve simple and complex problems.
  • Provide support primarily by telephone and email. Client site visits be required.
  • Efficiently prioritize technical support requests based on the issues presented and escalate where necessary.
  • Conduct appropriate diagnostic procedures to determine issues
  • Liaise with other team members to resolve larger issues
  • Follow up open support issues to ensure satisfactory resolution and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Log all call incidents into the call tracking software.

20% Training and Special Projects:

  • Assist with product testing and training as required
  • Complete research for defined projects on an as needed basis.
  • Other technical support duties as required.

10% IT Support:

  • Perform a range of duties in the technical area as required
  • Co-ordinate with the Corporate IT Team to support IT in the UK office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who has a geological background either academically or through work experience and a desire to obtain a wide range of technical exposure across numerous functions. Preferences:The successful candidate will have:

  • Third level education in Earth Science related subject essential. Geology preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year work experience within the geoscience industry OR post graduate academic qualification or research essential
  • Previous experience providing geoscience application support or training highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of mapping, visualisation, or ArcGis tools advantageous.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PC applications essential
  • Understanding of computer system methods, processes and research tools desirable.
  • Working knowledge of French an asset.
  • Highly developed analytical and trouble-shooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve client issues.
  • Highly customer focused with a high regard for service delivery.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise conflicting demands effectively under tight time constraints
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, both independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, essential.
  • Confident and self reliant - the ability to resolve technical queries effectively.
  • Self-motivated, able to act independently with minimum supervision while remaining a strong team player.
  • Adaptable and enthusiastic, and highly flexible.
  • Willing to travel.

Package:An attractive base salary of £24K - £27K (GBP) per year is on offer, dependent on skills and experience, plus a profit sharing scheme, share discount scheme, free shares annually. There is some flexibility on base salary for a high calibre candidate.
