Job Overview: A vibrant and dynamic Company who is a global energy leader with an exciting future are looking for a Geoscience Data Management Support Specialist.

The Company is one of Canada's largest energy marketing companies. They explore for, develop, produce and market crude oil, natural gas and power. The company has roots in Canada and worldwide operations in the United States, Yemen, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Australia and Colombia. They have built a strong, strategic presence within various North American regional markets and extended their presence into global markets. In 2004, they acquired some key assets in the North Sea and established an office in London to support these activities. These NS assets have established the Company as a significant regional player with both exploration and production activities.

The UK's Information Systems Group comprises functions such as Data Management, Information Management, Technical Systems, etc. Reporting to the Manager of Technical Systems, your main responsibility will be to assist the Technical Data Management Specialist in providing support to the exploration, subsurface and business development community.

Responsibilities: The Technical Systems team consists of 7 personnel and your role encompasses many functions including:

  • Provide geoscience data management support to the business users.
  • Update the CDA (UK oil & gas data store) with the Company's new well complete data set.
  • Update the DISKOS/SINAS (Norway data store) with Company's new well complete data set.
  • Maintain inventory for well /seismic data on both CDA & DISKOS/SINAS.
  • Provide assistance to the business to locate data sources, including downloads of well & seismic data from CDA and DISKOS/SINAS.
  • Develop a scouting role for CNS, Norway and NW Europe exploration teams.
  • Act as the company representative at CDA user group meetings.
  • Facilitate well/seismic data requests from operators and data release agents.
  • Respond to regulatory compliance requests from DBERR/DEAL.
  • Assist with CNS/Norway seismic & well trades.

This role offers a great deal of scope and variety, for an individual, with proven experience in well and seismic data management, appreciation of data compliancy and legal data obligations, and an excellent co-ordinator with a strong service focus. Working for an expanding oil company, the role offers exposure to various data types, technical applications, workflows and operations.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in relevant discipline (Geoscience) essential.
  • Proven experience in E&P data management essential. Experience working for an oil company highly advantageous.
  • Good working knowledge of seismic and well data types and formats essential.
  • Strong appreciation of seismic and well data obligations to third parties and state bodies essential.
  • Previous experience updating data stores essential, preferably through the following data exchange service websites: DBERR, DEAL and CDA.
  • Previous experience using third party Web technologies to access relevant data and information. Working knowledge of Schlumberger's Decision Point, Landmark's Power Explorer Datastore interfaces or/and 'Livelink' information management system (EDMS) highly desirable.
  • Experience of UKCS/Norway basic well set data types and/or UKCS/Norway 2D/3D seismic data types highly desirable.
  • Excellent data co-ordination experience - strong service focus, ensuring that data services are delivered effectively across all relevant groups essential.
  • Familiarity with the DBEER Data Exchange formats (e.g. Pon9) highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of UNIX environment for data loading and exports of 2D / 3D seismic volumes highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to interact with internal and external groups.
  • An assertive individual with the ability to work independently, take initiative and achieve goals.
  • Strong service delivery focus, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction, and high quality of service.

Package: An attractive Contract Day Rate of £350 - £400 is on offer dependent on skills and experience. There is a potential for this job to progress to a permanent role but not guaranteed.
